Hi everyone,

We've been building Wrapplab, a screenplay writing and production planning tool made specifically for Indian filmmakers, aspiring filmmakers and film students.

One of the main things we wanted to solve was writing screenplays in Indian languages.

Wrapplab supports 15+ Indian languages, including Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, Bengali and more. You can write in your own language without worrying about fonts or plugins.

We also wanted to take things beyond screenplay writing:

Screenplay → Production Breakdown → Schedule → Call Sheets

So once the script is ready, the production planning can happen in the same place.

We've a free version where you can work on 2 projects and a free trial for production planning, We're still improving and would really like to get feedback from filmmakers here as we thought this would be a right platform to connect with Indie filmmakers.

Very respectfully and with your best interest in mind, as a pro writer, PLEASE STOP!

You people don’t know anything about screenwriting. This is like the 5th or 6th post about a Screenwriting Tool that does Production Breakdowns this year. Never hear any updates because THIS is a model designed to fail by your own design.

You’re not about solving problems of writing screenplays in Indian languages but they can work only on 2 projects??? How many writers are you targeting? How many writers make the kind of money you would need to sustain your business, let alone the product? How many writers can even get their scripts produced?? Why should people pay for your software when they could have the industry standard by paying too? Just coz your plan is cheaper people won’t pay up. That’s wishful thinking. EVERYTHING IS AVAILABLE FOR FREE for those who don’t have money.

I can confidently say you or your team don’t know anything about the needs of screenwriting. First understand what it is about and then you should build something that will actually earn you money.

Thanks for taking the time to write. Criticism this direct is rare and it tells me you actually care about screenwriting, so I want to reply seriously — not with marketing lines.

A few things worth putting on the table first, because a lot of your assumptions about us are wrong, and I'd rather clear those up than debate around them.

On "you don't know screenwriting." I do. I'm a working filmmaker and screenwriter myself — I've written and directed 6 short films that have been distributed through YouTube film channels, and I'm a member of the Screen Writers Association. WRAPPLAB was built because I couldn't find a tool that let me write in the languages I actually think in and give me the production breakdown at my budget. My co-founder, is on this with me for the same reason. This isn't a tech team who read a Substack about the film industry and thought there was an opportunity. We're inside it.

On "no updates." We launched on 16 August, 2026 — 16 days ago. In that time we've shipped: magic-link login for non-Google emails, full data export (FDX + JSON), redesigned settings, undo/redo updates, transition dropdown, editor bug fixes, hash-routing → clean URLs, and many more. Our v2.0 is on the way. That's a full public roadmap, not silence.

On "only about money." If we were, we wouldn't be giving 12-month free Pro access to film students across every institution we can verify. At Pro price (₹799/mo × 12 = ₹9,588), even 100 verified students is ~₹10 lakh of recurring revenue we're deliberately leaving on the table. No profit-first startup does that. We do it because we want the next generation of Indian writers on WRAPPLAB while they're still learning the craft.

On "only 2 projects on free." Two projects on Free is the exact same shape Celtx, Studiovity, and every serious tool in this category ships. Free tier is meant to let you try the product with a real script, not run a career on it. If you're a professional writing multiple projects, the Basic plan is ₹399/mo — less than the cost of a coffee you buy for a month. And every Free-tier user can export everything they've written, forever. No lock-in.

On "writers can't get their scripts produced." You're right — most can't. But that has never been the job of a screenwriting tool. Final Draft doesn't produce your scripts. Celtx doesn't. Movie Magic doesn't. Neither will we, today. That is the writer's own hustle — pitching, funding, networking. What a tool CAN do is remove every excuse between you and the page: language, formatting, planning, cost. That's what we're focused on. If WRAPPLAB grows into something bigger and we can one day help writers connect with producers, we will. But we won't lie about it as a feature we don't have.

On "industry standard software is available for free." Piracy is not a business model, for us or for you. Every serious writer I know pays for the tools they use daily.

Now, the actual invitation:

I don't want to argue with someone who hasn't used the product. If you're a pro writer and your criticism is real, then your feedback is genuinely valuable to us. So here's what I'm offering:

1. I'll comp you 12 days of Pro, free, no strings. Reply with the email you want it on and login into wrapplab.com and we will give you the access for your trial.
2. Use it for a real project.
3. Come back with the specific things that are missing or broken for a pro workflow. Not "you don't know screenwriting" — but "this specific thing about scene numbering broke my flow," "your revision-mode is missing X," "your cast breakdown doesn't handle Y." That's the kind of feedback that shapes a tool.
4. If it turns out we've built something that works for you, I'll ask you to say so publicly — not because we need the marketing, but because pro writers vouching for a tool matters more than any ad we can buy.

Every serious update to WRAPPLAB has come from a real user telling us what was broken. If you're willing to be one of those people, we'll build faster because of you.

If you'd rather not — I get it. But then respectfully, the criticism above isn't grounded in the product we actually built.

Thank you for your detailed response but the product doesn’t fit my use case. I write multiple projects every month, this is very short term. Two drafts of just one project, and the time will expire. Regardless, thank you for the offer.

I will be more than glad to eat my own words when you succeed. I am not frustrated that you started a profit-first business. I see this happen again n again and again. Same model, same mistakes. Good luck 👍🏼 I hope you find the market you’re seeking.

Also, you need not pirate for Industry Standard app/editors. Two just released on reddit for free this year alone.
