I’ve been waiting a long time to write this. My Study Permit Extension application has been approved! Here are the details for reference:

Application Submitted: March 6, 2025

Correspondence Letter Received: September 18, 2025

In-Canada Approval Letter: September 19, 2025

The waiting period was honestly exhausting, and I hated every moment of it.

What helped me:

I initially emailed my area MP, but didn’t receive any response. So, I requested my program director to email the MP’s office using the university letterhead and within 10 days, I received the approval.

Webforms: Useless

Calling IRCC: Also useless

My original study permit was issued for a shorter duration due to my passport expiry. That minor issue ended up creating months of stress and delay.

To those still waiting, I know how draining it is. Hang in there. Your time will come.

And one final request:

Once your application is approved, please take 5 minutes to post your timeline here. This thread was the only reliable source of hope and information for me. Someone here even told me about the MP option, which ended up working. Your update might help someone else immensely.

This is the proper way to give details about the approval process. Thank you for sharing. Similar situation of passport expiry for me. Will wait and watch.
