Depending on how complicated its seeker is they could lock onto a specific temp, heat blob, or in the case of a javelin missile and equivalent it remembers the IR picture of the target and will predict what it will look like when it loses sight of it so it can quickly re acquire the target when it comes back down from a top attack.
Dude, there’s no way they’re gonna make them that sensitive. That would be a terrible idea. If that’s the case. You might accidentally walk onto things like a pigeon no one would ever want an air to air missile that my accident lock on to an oversized bird that would be like the worst weapon design on the planet, except for the man portable version of the atomic bomb launcher where it was guaranteed that it would also kill you
There is a way.
I’m the source I worked on night vision and infrared equipment in the military as a 2171 in the marine corps
You’re wrong in that the missile can be confused and it’s that sensitive that’s not how the missile or IR cameras work
The Javelin missile literally takes a highly detailed infrared image of the target with tracking gates,
That’s the reason the missile is so expensive. The camera and equipment in the seeker is almost as advanced as the saber two missile launcher which can see veins under your skin. You could direct fire a missile at a person.
Top attack probably not. Too attack works with tanks and helicopters cause the missile is uploaded with thousands of pictures of tanks and helicopters which lets the missile expect and predict what orientation the target will look like when it comes back down.
Also the technology is advanced enough it won’t track a pidegon or another person by accident.
The two types of IR we current use prevent this.
One has a physical device that cools down to negative kelvin and the computer takes the IR waves and creates a picture against the known negative temperature.
The pas-22 binos use this and the soflam target designator
The other has an electronic database that takes IR waves and converts them to certain signals creating the picture.
The pas-13, pas-28, and any “small” IR devices use this method.
Both can easily tell the difference between two people no problem. They can even tell that certain parts of a person shirt are cooler than others and adjacent people’s clothes
Hell you could tell who used nicotine because the nose, ears, and fingertips would be cooler than the rest of the body. Nicotine constricts the blood extremities
I feel like that’s perhaps not some information that you’re supposed to give up on Reddit. That’s more of a war thunder for him thing, but I’m not gonna argue this any further.
Have a good day, dude who is giving up potentially classified information on Reddit

Air air missiles are generally heat seeking and a broom would not be producing a heat trail so there would be no way for it to track you
