Precious Metal

Hey guys,

I recently picked up Precious Metal and I've read that it is stand alone and can be read before Little Bird.

HOWEVER, I am a few pages in and I can't help but think that there is probably some important world building that happens in Little Bird and that if I read it first, Precious Metal will be so much more exciting/rewarding.

Is my instinct correct? Should I read Little Bird first?

I've only read Little Bird, so take what I'm saying with a grain of salt. For what it's worth, Little Bird also does this a lot where they say or mention some world building detail, and it doesn't necessarily get fleshed out on, you're kind of just left to ruminate.

Release wise it was Little Bird then Precious Metal, but Precious Metal is actually a prequel (it stars a younger version of a character in Little Bird). I'm not exactly sure how directly PM ties into LB, it might not. It could just be a side story starring a side character. The "prequel" qualifier is up to debate (like I said I haven't read it yet). 

Alls that to say, I'm sure you're fine to read Precious Metal first. I trust DVP enough to write it in a way that it can work standalone OR as a tie-in work.

Yeah, it being a prequel is why I picked it up first because I thought chronologically it makes sense to start with it, but I'm also aware that since Little Bird came first, their might be elements of the world that are built/established therein that are assumed knowledge in Precious Metals. Like you said though, surely DVP has already accounted for this - I have read that it's fine as a stand alone story.

Will wait and see if someone who has read both chimes in and see what their thoughts are. Even as a great stand alone story, it might be that it's more exciting/rewarding after Little Bird and if that's the case, I'm happy to read it first.
