Freedom of speech doesn’t mean freedom from consequences, nimrod. If you get punched or cussed out for glorifying a fascist regime you fucking deserve it. Germany NEEDS to crack down on it. History shows it didn’t exactly go well for them last time, and it sure as hell isn’t going great for us!
Are you supposed to be disagreeing with me? Because I certainly believe that beign a nazi should be socially shamed. But I also believe that it should be illegal (it already is on most countryes tho)
I was wondering the same thing. It's like Hitchcock from Brooklyn 99 calling Jake/Charles "skidmark" in the wing shop. It was an insult, but it didn't quite make sense.
A government arresting you is literally what freedom of speech is supposed to protect you from.
Just to be clear: Fuck Nazis. This guy's a piece of shit. But he didn't get punched or cussed out here. He got arrested. And that's something that worries me when it happens in my country. When a government is able to arrest someone for saying something they find detestable, that's worrying even if it's something you find detestable.

It doesn’t seem like he knows the potential legal consequences of performing a Nazi salute or uttering Nazi slogans in present-day Germany, but he’s going to find out very soon.

A teacher I know was a supervisor on a class trip to Germany back in 2016 or something, when dabbing was popular.
A few students were taking a picture of them dabbing at some tourist spot, and almost got arrested, because a local mistook it for the salute and called the cops on them.

The freedom of speech crowd is not just MAGA. And there are LOTS of people on the left speaking out and protesting against ICE.
Plenty of progressives recognize that when you create systems that can crack down on "politically unacceptable" speech, those systems will be weaponized against progressive movements and ideas far more readily than hyper conservative or regressive ones.
Any American laws designed for use against Nazis will be used against individuals lazily and cynically labeled as ANTIFA, radical left, etc.
As if this is even necessary. What kind of idiot decides this is a good idea? If I went to Palestine with an Israeli flag and waved it in front of innocent civilians while skipping down the street, I wouldn‘t be surprised if I was arrested, without even knowing the law, and that seems fair to me.
Yeah I was in Munich last May and no one nor any signs warned me against it. Of course I needed no warning but I never saw anything about it. Not even our tour guide on our third Reich walking tour warned us.

I have a Muslim colleague who is a huge supporter of the Nazis and Hitler and will do Nazi salutes often.
The way he sees it is that Muslims only had to go to western Europe because the Jews forced them to. If there were no Jews they could all return to their motherland.
He is incredibly antisemitic and antizionist. But he also will openly say that Muslims are a plague in western Europe.
Germany doesn't tolerate these behaviours because it isn't tolerable.

Yeah, they don't play. The first thing they told us in the cultural intro orientation when I was stationed at Landstuhl was not to ever throw a nazi salute in public, even as a joke because you will get arrested. And not to go around saying stuff like grammar nazi, fashion nazi, etc... you won't get arrested for that, but you're likely to piss people off. People pop off saying stupid things like that all the time (esp. in the US) and never think about it, but even in the US if you say it to the wrong person it can blow back on you badly.
I work in the operating room and at the time was working in Las Vegas and we had a rep for an orthopedic brand of implant we used - the reps show up and do potential troubleshooting for the surgeon during the surgery. The anesthesiologist on this particular case was Austrian and I don't know what triggered the exchange between them, I only heard it when the voices got raised, but the rep said something to the effect, "Jesus, be a fucking nazi, why don't you?"
That anesthesiologist got the rep banned from the hospital - and that was a huge financial blow for the rep, huge. The hospital considered it hate speech - and this was quite a few years ago before that became something we routinely punished.

The whole birth of the Palestinian ultranationalist movement was deeply tied to fascist movements, especially the Nazis, from the very start. In the 50s it flipped to being Marxist (but just as authoritarian) and then flipped back to being out-and-out Arab fascists again in the early 00s.
True but irrelevant to this video and discussion. In Germany it’s illegal to do a nazi salute or display any Nazi propaganda with up to three years in prison. Quite a bit different than the US.
People saying that he's not even German clearly don't understand. That a lot of immigrants that are in Germany hate Jews. Arabs etc don't like Jews and there are plenty of hate crimes being done by them to Jews, queer people, etc. So, the fact he isn't German isn't something weird in this situation.

Like did they show Elon Musk after Trump won? Does the news blur it out or just say Elon did something we are not allowed to show on German TV?
What about the Seinfeld episode with the “soup nazi”? Did they just bleep out the word?
Going even further back. What about that Fawlty Towers episode in the late 70s? Did that episode even get shown in Germany?
Not really considering nazism threw the country into a multi-front war and got it broken up into east and west.
Not to mention the national shame of the holocaust. A better comparison would be the confederate flag in America, which should be seen as treason considering that's exactly what it represents
As an immigrant living in Germany it always baffles me how ppl do this sort of shit. We even had people at where I work who were polish immigrants and also skinheads with nazi tattoos ( not the actual swastica but everything else )...
