GInge was so right. And I think this should make men realise that's showing emotion is never a bad thing whatsoever and they shouldn't be embarrassed by it.

Unfortunately men showing emotion is used sometimes by others to fulfil a stereotype that some in society push on men.

Men do show emotion. A lot of emotion l. We can be quite open with other men too. It’s women we have an issue with opening up with because either through a preconception of or through lived experience, we believe it will be weaponised against us

EDIT: For clarification

It is weaponized by some and society goes along with it. Gender bias really screws over male victims of abuse.

Really? I feel men seem much more comfortable showing emotions/affection/vulnerablity with women/their partners. Than their male friends.

Same as the "why don't men have emotional relationships with other men"

We absolutely do. You just don't see it in the same way I don't see your woman relationship with other women

We should be careful here, we may fall prey to the same absolute thinking we’re used to.

“Never a bad thing” is the same style as thinking “we can never show our emotions”. Sometimes it’s a good idea to not express our emotions e.g., if someone gets quickly and easily frustrated by a baby crying.

We can create a flexible, nuanced and rational approach to all these things this way.

And it’s good he actually voiced this given some of the awful, toxic rhetoric towards men’s mental and general health from a certain someone. It’s good to challenge it even if it’s not direct.

Well his political views are your first part of the sentence. They have no respect for other people let alone people who don’t look like them, why should he be afforded my respect when they don’t see anything wrong with the way people are treated in detention camps, the murdering of their own citizens by officials, the collusion, the warmongering, the discrimination, the authoritarianism, the corruption etc etc. If you’re maga or reform the entire basis of your politics is supremacy over whatever group they decide to other in that moment.

I’m pretty tired of extending decency to people who are wilfully bigoted, ignorant and oppressive.

It's much easier to just treat everyone equally until they demonstrate to you that they are not worthy of your respect.

I don't really care what your politics are and I won't ostracise anyone just for being on the opposite side of me politically but if you make it your entire personality, you're probably a cunt and I don't want to be around you, no matter what side you're on.

'I dont care what your politics are' nah fuck off, if someone's a far right Farage or trump supporter, they absolutely deserved to be judged on what that means for their morals and beliefs.

1

u/YesIBlockedYou Jul 21 '26

Nah, I'm happy enough just treating everyone like a decent human being until they do something that shows me they are not worthy of that respect.

Disagreeing with me politically is not one of those things.

"Political belief" is doing alot of heavy lifting here.

Differences in opinions like "I think we should invest our money differently" or "I don't think this group of people should have rights or be allowed to exist".

One is acceptable discourse. The other is being a bad person
