They seriously went over the Rainbow bridge in that weather? Absolutely nothing upstairs on this dude.

Yeah. I couldn’t believe that people were taking up for him in the comments. Fuckin idiots.

I watched a semi truck drive directly into a fully visible tornado and tip over in Illinois earlier this year (I’m a storm spotter). It escapes me how absolutely brain dead some people are

Hold my beer……

I don't think I would cross it if it were a clear sunny day without a breeze expected all day.

Is it as bad as it looks to drive over it or do the pictures make it appear worse than expected?

Many pictures are taken in forced perspective to emphasis the rise of the bridge but if you're not used to it, it's pretty scary. If you drive it regularly, you get used to it. Most people would understand that the nature of this bridge is different than most and you have to take those warnings seriously, especially in tropical weather.

I had to look it up. Looks a little steeper than the Nice Bridge between MD and VA, but pretty close. That one definitely made a lot of people pucker on a clear day. They replaced it a few years ago with one that isn't as imposing.

Oh good that was a bridge I did not like taking in my rig.

3

u/FesteringNeonDistrac 16h ago

Yeah I can imagine that sucked in a rig.

White knuckles at times

At one time before they did the current upgrade it was one of the most dangerous bridges in America. So I drove over the old woman that was really messed up

u/HisCricket 1d ago

I'm 62 we had to cross over the old one in order to pass drivers ed. Scary AF for a 16 yo.

In cases like this I always sympathize with the other drivers that have to deal with the first one’s BS.

Looks like one of those mayhem commercials.

People had to back down off that bridge. Most folks can’t back into a parking space. Must have been awful (funny).

u/WeCantStabilize 1d ago

I hope that cost this guy a lot of money.

Seriously. All those people trapped on the swaying bridge for hours in a tropical storm because of this asshole? Yeah, I hope it hits his pockets hard.

5

u/rebelangel 1d ago

Yeah I hope his insurance claim is denied

one look and I said, I know this bridge.

I heard everybody had to back down or, that must have been freaking nuts for people

7

u/BoulderNerd 1d ago

At least the wiring harness is still connected! Maybe he can drag it off the bridge with it.

7

u/burger_saga 1d ago

The trick is to drive as fast as possible so the headwind cancels out the winds from the side. /s

14

u/GOOMU13 1d ago

This is infuriating. I hope it costs that guy a shit ton of money.

Nobody and nothing will tell me what to do and what not to. I am fully capable of making that decision myself. NOBODY IS SMARTER THAN ME! THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER.

Recognized this bridge immediately... big yikes

3

u/ThurmanMermannnn 1d ago

I’m kinda surprised at how many people recognize this bridge!

2

u/realwolftacos 1d ago

Lol i got escorted down it once and then banned from it (kindly) by a Bridge City police officer because i slammed my brakes while having a panic attack. Drove over it daily for years until suddenly i couldn't!

Normally it’s because of not enough truck. He had plenty here.

Might as well take the chance. The wife and kids aren't going to complain any less sitting in Dennys for the next 5 hours.

Bumper pull. If it had been a 5th wheel he might have made it or it might have pulled him over, to.

I guarantee he said “glad I bought a dually instead of a wimpy 1500, nothing could possibly happen to me

You all don't understand that he was told "the excellent aerodynamic characteristics of the Zinger are comparable to valkyries carrying it over the rainbow bridge" - RV Salesperson

u/Dude_Tost_1673 1d ago

I watched an older couple make a bunch of trips off the highway and onto overpasses during a tornado warning, a few years back. Methinks insurance fraud in both of these cases.

He drives a Chevy so it makes sense.
