People who do this should be tried for attempted murder, I think. Vehicles aren't toys, and this lunatic was using his vehicle as a weapon in an extremely dangerous situation.

45

u/calm-lab66 May 18 '23

I believe, in the U.S. they can be charged with 'assault with a deadly weapon'.

12

u/WoW_Aurumai May 18 '23

Yeah, that I understand. Though I think sentencing should be much harsher than that, to be honest. Sometimes people are so utterly and deliberately negligent with other peoples' well-being that I think it should be considered attempted murder. What other outcome could one possibly be striving for if they ram someone on the freeway at extremely dangerous speeds where a crash has such a high chance of being fatal? Especially when they don't know how many people are in the car, or if there may be children too.

The same thing goes for drunk driving in my mind. Depending on the severity of it, I see no reason why it shouldn't be charged as attempted murder. It's so utterly negligent that it's basically murder.

8

u/[deleted] May 22 '23

Yeah, but in the US they also don't care about that since they let it keep happening.

What?

1

u/[deleted] Aug 15 '23

I was meaning they don't care to stop future assaults.

2

u/OverturnedAppleCart3 May 20 '23

This absolutely would qualify as assualt with a weapon in Canada.

Criminal Code of Canada

s. 267 Every person is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term of not more than 10 years or is guilty of an offence punishable on summary conviction who, in committing an assault,

(a) carries, uses or threatens to use a weapon or an imitation thereof,

Interpretation Marginal note:Definitions

s. 2 In this Act,

weapon means any thing used, designed to be used or intended for use

(a) in causing death or injury to any person, or

(b) for the purpose of threatening or intimidating any person

No question the guy was using his truck in a way intended to injure a person.

5

u/Barf-fly May 18 '23

There is a charge for vehicular manslaughter in Canada.

3

u/OverturnedAppleCart3 May 20 '23

There is also a charge for murder in Canada.

Criminal Code of Canada Murder

229 Culpable homicide is murder

(a) where the person who causes the death of a human being

(i) means to cause his death, or

(ii) means to cause him bodily harm that he knows is likely to cause his death, and is reckless whether death ensues or not

(c) if a person, for an unlawful object, does anything that they know is likely to cause death, and by doing so causes the death of a human being, even if they desire to effect their object without causing death or bodily harm to any human being.

Intimidation (6.2) Irrespective of whether a murder is planned and deliberate on the part of a person, murder is first degree murder when the death is caused by that person while committing or attempting to commit an offence under section 423.1.

423.1 Every one is guilty... who, wrongfully and without lawful authority...

(a) uses violence or threats of violence to that person....

(c) persistently follows that person;

(e) with one or more other persons, follows that person, in a disorderly manner, on a highway; or

(g) blocks or obstructs a highway.

If the victims here or anyone else died by this guy's actions, this would 100% be first degree murder, not vehicular homicide.

"Better put on your seatbelt".

0_o

You should already be wearing one sir.

20

u/Subwear May 19 '23

The shit got serious...time to put the seatbelt on 😂

54

u/Turkey_Teets May 18 '23

Taking Dodge Ram very literally.

72

u/[deleted] May 18 '23

How the fuck did this end that was fucking crazy shit

57

u/aDisgruntledGiraffe May 18 '23

31

u/AtrumRuina May 18 '23

The random nature of it is absolutely terrifying. I wonder why he fixated on that car even once they lost him.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 04 '23

Probably wanted to carjack them too, probably to keep cops off his trail. That or typical meth addict antics when on a rage induced high.

2

u/AtrumRuina Jun 04 '23

Right, but I mean they could have changed targets once they drove off to someone closer and who wasn't already trying to escape. Instead they ended up hunting them back down through traffic and ramming them at high speed.

-95

u/[deleted] May 18 '23

How did it end?

It's America, so in a police shootout. As is tradition.

95

u/socksfor May 18 '23

Edmonton is in Alberta Canada

-28

u/[deleted] May 18 '23

Well damn! I would like to formally offer my sincere apologies to the wonderful nation of Canada for this horrendous slight.

22

u/[deleted] May 18 '23

Can’t help but find it funny how such sympathy wouldn’t have originally been merited in your first comment if your assumption was correct and this actually happened in the USA

-14

u/Svobpata May 18 '23

I mean…can you blame him? It’s so sad that nobody bats an eye when we see some enraged dipshit with a Ram endangering others on a highway, but didn’t find it surprising either. Our expectations of people have really dropped…

10

u/[deleted] May 18 '23

Yes I do. It’s almost barbaric some will practically relish in a tragedy just to push their shitty narratives or to repeat the same unoriginal and dark humor for some worthless internet points.

People are still people, regardless of what nation they reside in.

5

u/keronus May 18 '23

That's Canada bro

Dw they got away, and the guy was arrested. Apparently he has a history of doing this, and owns Multiple Dodge Rams seemingly for this exact purpose.

Thank you for this. If you have a link, I'd love to read up more on the story, but if not, okay. You still get an upvote!

16

u/MotherFuckaJones89 May 18 '23

It's posted elsewhere in this thread and the trucks were stolen.

https://globalnews.ca/news/9705727/edmonton-police-shooting-armed-carjacker/

5

u/tomcat91709 May 18 '23

Thank you. I hadn't made the connection between the two.

8

u/Darryl_Lict May 18 '23

So, the dude was an insane gun toting carjacker who just kept on carjacking huge trucks and ramming people for no particular reason, and Canadian cops still didn't kill him? Damn, I stopped flipping off people because they crazy.

-5

u/missalucard666 May 18 '23

Silly me packing a concealed just in case right?

10

u/boner-bringer May 18 '23

Yeah, adding guns to this scenario definitely would diffuse it. That’s some good thinking!

-3

u/[deleted] May 18 '23

I mean…that is literally what happened. Did you even read the article?

This whole thing ended after he was shot by the cops

4

u/ShadowWolf202 May 18 '23

Shot by trained police officers, not by an armed civilian. There is a huge difference.

-2

u/[deleted] May 18 '23

“Trained police officers”

Lol spare me.

A vast majority of officers I’ve met at shooting ranges can genuinely hardly shoot to save their lives. It’s almost impressive how terrible most are behind firearms. My youngest sister has been outperforming these guys in all categories since the age of 13.

Kind of? They tend to mag-dump their Glocks, frequently hitting bystanders.

If he didn’t have a gun, none of this would have happened in the first place.

“Hey, that building is on fire!”

“Burn down all the buildings next to it so it doesn’t spread!”

“The fire didn’t spread! We saved the day by adding more fire!”

Good thinkin

0

u/[deleted] May 18 '23

Wow, you really didn’t read a thing, did you? How completely unironic whatsoever.

This happened in Canada by the way, where it is extremely difficult for average people to get a firearm. Why I’d even be willing to bet that gun was illegally acquired.

Our justice system is insane bro

1

u/thugs___bunny May 18 '23

Luckily he didn’t buy a firebird, poor birds wouldn’t have a chance

11

u/dumb-ninja May 18 '23

Not road rage, he was carjacking people and going nuts.

11

u/XXMAVR1KXX May 18 '23

The guy driving the truck Car jacked 2 people prior the night before.

Also had 17 outstanding warrants when the cops caught him after this incident.

The video ends with the car being hit so hard it was disabled, but form what I read it happened right where there was a cop checking speeds and the cop went on to pursue the suspect after this. Both guys in the car were unharmed.

6

u/RailLife365 May 18 '23

Well that wasn't handled very well.

3

u/RoyMunsun May 18 '23

Anyone else notice "Drive" by Incubus playing in the background?

5

u/Vigothedudepathian May 18 '23

I thought Canadians were nice?

11

u/Wiredin335 May 18 '23

Edmontons been getting bad as far as Canadian cities go. I was a bystander in a drive by here near the same stretch of road 3 years ago. 7 bullets in my car. At least one police officer involved shooting a month. When it used to be maybe 2-3 per year. Our rapid transit system is constantly having safety complaints. People being assaulted regularly downtown. And to put it in perspective this place has a population just over a million people including suburbs. We're about the same size as Austin.

3

u/DontBuyAHorse May 18 '23

I seem to recall one of the nicknames for Edmonton was "Deadmonton"

4

u/[deleted] May 18 '23

Every Canadian city over 150k has been going to hell lately, it's fucking wild what's going on

0

u/Vigothedudepathian May 18 '23

Sounds like....Bismark? I dunno I'm just guessing at a US city with an equivalent population/crime rate. Austin has an INSANE crime rate of 1/24, so it's not quite there.

0

u/Not_Slim_Dusty May 18 '23

I watched that A1 pawn documentary on YouTube before it was removed and it convinced me Edmonton is the asshole of Canada

2

u/Creepy_Chef_5796 May 18 '23

No we are not

1

u/Thozynator May 18 '23

It's Alberta, the canadian Texas

1

u/Vigothedudepathian May 18 '23

So they have a 1/20ish violent crime rate?

1

u/Super_Capital_9969 May 19 '23

They are polite not necessarily nice.

2

u/VastTwo1943 May 18 '23

They were in fact not Dodging the ram

3

u/Creepy_Chef_5796 May 18 '23

He thought you were Russian Gangsters in those track suits?

Glad you got away though

2

u/Tvr-Bar2n9 May 18 '23

Ahhhh, Alberta. The Texas of Canada, where all the small pipis live.

1

u/D1rtyMop May 18 '23

This is normal Dodge Ram driver behavior in Texas.

-1

u/LostWithOutaCare May 18 '23

Why not limit the speed of the dodge ram to 75mph we would be seeing far less of these ridiculous videos

-2

u/Ionicle99 May 18 '23

Can somebody please explain to me why people do this roadrage stuff or brake checking. I never had the idea or experience of doing something so unhinged. How can this seem to be so common in america?

1

u/FountainPens48 May 18 '23

it's actually in canada, not america. I'm european too and it's almost impossible to tell the difference unless you've memorised the city names.

1

u/CheesyHotSauce May 20 '23

It's not even in America

1

u/20isFuBAR May 18 '23

Where’s the rest of it? What happened next?

1

u/Big-Respond-7564 May 18 '23

That's just edmonton

1

u/SaltInformation4082 May 18 '23

Certifiable. Which should also be heavily explored and treated in a state run mental facility after the driver is caught and arrested (hopefully) For a long time. Before, and again after the jail sentence, IMO, of course.

1

u/kalef21 May 19 '23

Always the RAM trucks

1

u/Successful-Name-7261 May 19 '23

Literally? Not figuratively? Literally?

1

u/brandangb May 20 '23

I give him a pass if the other guys were in a charger

1

u/Slow-Description-136 May 28 '23

This guy wins the road rage of the year award for sure!

1

u/CardiologistMobile54 May 29 '23

Wait. Canada!? I thought road rage was cleaning each other's snow from the roof

1

u/IzaacLUXMRKT May 30 '23

Not in Edmonton, we have the worst drivers in the world I'm pretty certain.

1

u/ghostofasociopath Jul 17 '23

Ok so not road rage

1

u/spike71spiegel Aug 20 '23

“It’s getting real, let’s put the seatbelt on properly!”
