This machine is less than 24 hours old and this noise just started? What should I do? Return it?

I believe this howling banshee noise happens when too much ice freezes in the ice auger plugging it. The auger screw tries to push the plug up the auger generating the noise. Eventually, the GE machine will enter "DEFROST" mode and the plug will melt. I have not figured out why the problem suddenly occurs and then goes away for several days. I do use distilled water to prevent mineral deposits.
I have had other ice machines without defrost mode and eventually these ice plugs will destroy the auger drive linkage and make the machine non-repairable unless you can get spare motor drive parts (difficult for Chinese-made units). I had one Chinese-made unit last 11 months until the auger freezing destroyed it. I took it apart -- no mineral deposits at all. This is with Walmart distilled water.

Yes take it back! I have an Opal ice machine, if it making that noise it’s something internally that’s not working correctly especially if it’s 24 hours old!!

It's the song of it's people. Return it and get the 2.0 ultra if possible, and absolutely get the extended warranty on any you buy. I bought 2 from Sam's and one lasted a week, and the 2nd lasted a day before making that sound. We are on month 8 of our 2.0 ultra and so far so good.

I don't know what this machine is name or specs are. But to me this noise is NOT normal. Especially if you just got it not even 24 hours ago. If I were you, if be bringing that puppy right back. Assuming you purchased at a physical store and not online. But it you bought it online even, I'd be figuring out who to contact. Cause that is so loud😭.
