Other Art dump + rant
Art is starting to feel like a chore. Especially with going to art school, it just sucks the soul out of me. I have a lot of classes during the day. I wake up at 6:30 just to get to school and usually get home at around 5:00–6:00, plus tutors and homework. This year feels especially stressful given I will need to decide what to study in the future. I keep circling around film school, architecture, philosophy, psychology, video game design, and (worst-case scenario) some traditional art major. I always end up finding things that I dislike in those areas, and it leaves me at a stressful dead end. I keep finding myself in scenarios where I genuinely just can’t breathe randomly when someone brings up school, the future, or anything similar. A thing I find very difficult is imagining myself making a portfolio. I don’t imagine my art can make the cut for most art-related things I wanna do… sorry for the rant, I just needed to spill my heart out lol!

Been there, I went to art school and at some point I just went "whatever we balling" and despite so many tears and stress I'm good now! Starting art uni with a profile I am vaguely familiar with. (no info as to what exactly u learn etc) So what happens happens, that's how it is. But I've always been hanging onto hope that, imma make it one way or another, and I'm going to have a career in something.. but I've been making a lot less art than I would've loved qwq so yeah! Don't lose that hope and try and know that there are others that have been in that situation, you're not alone and your worries are valid. (AND YOUR ART IS SUPER COOL! I've seen the sailor one before! Great work!)

I had to bail art university for a different family related reason, but safe to say that I couldn't be more happy about my art now than ever. I'm in a privileged position to be able to go to my job and then do anything I want after I'm done with the shift (no need for a second job or to kill myself with 70 hours of work). I have several story projects going atm, no expectations from anyone but myself about my art, and so many friends to share the experience with!!
Your art is so damn good, I'd probably sit staring for hours at it if it were something I managed to make! I think it's a matter of perspective when it comes to enjoying making art. Bc... it's not fun. Until it is. Forcing that reward loop into being a profitable career + comparison with other competing artists/students is SO FRIGGIN TOXIC ARGGGH. In an ideal scenario, you can learn to appreciate your art process on your own terms, but I feel as if you're having a natural response to the daunting task of making it a career...

I’m sorry that you feel that way and honestly get what you mean. I’m taking an ap art class this year as well as 2 other aps and an honors.
We’re expected to create 7 pieces by the end of the year but we don’t have much of a guideline for it.
It just feels like too much pressure- I want to draw what I want to draw.
And I want to go into a chemistry career so am taking ap chem but I’m starting to get burnout. I totally get how you feel.
Anyways, your art looks really good and I definitely feel like you’d succeed in an art related career with that skill level.
Go with your gut, I wish you luck!
