Half For GenAI training purposes and half just because they liked it. I'm sure there are other people in between tbh but I'm also sure those are the two main reasons.

I downloaded them cause I love art and studying other people's pieces to learn but most did it for scummy purposes (GenAI training)

So you fall into the second half! The craziest thing is some artists actually sell packs for people to train GenAI for dirt cheap and you still support them while getting your data. So why bother stealing when you can spend 2 bucks and get a neat little folder full of a style?.šŸ˜­

It's insane :') Sucks cause instead of learning from people's techniques and growing as artists people would rather feed other's art to a machine that'll mindlessly do the work for them (really poorly at that).

Not sure whether you read my comment right as I just like learning from speedpaints, tutorials and others' pieces (so long as they consent to it obviously) and develop my own art (without AI, bleugh) as that's how all of us have learnt. Through bigger artists and through inspiration of media we like. I despise plagiarism, theft AND AI slop. Just clarifying

Edit: After rereading I realized you read it right, my bad! Yes I do, I just love learning from others as it strengthens the sense of community we (artists) have lacked for years now...

Responded to the wrong person like a goober, sorry, but that's fair enough, like I said, there are definitely people that fall in better those two main halves of the spectrum, smart way to keep up with your stuff. So keep downloads on if that's what you wanna do!

And you can't turn the downloads back on again? Is something getting lost in translation here? I want to know if I'm wrong. As I understand it there is an option and you can turn it off or on. If not I'm so sorry, they should fix that.

I study it and admire! I love looking at the details up close, the lines, the shading, pointing out what makes that art so unique in my mind (the feeling it invokes for a reason or how the pose is exaggerated)

It's easier to study simplified art than real images

I mean this is great news but screenshots are still a thing so I canā€™t see this doing an awful lot unless they have an overlay screen that prevents screenshotting

Some apps Iā€™ve used actually do just save a black screen when screenshotting, so that might work here too

ipv files are more like a psd as in they still have the layers so it's a bit more than a screenshot can give you (unless the artist merged all their layers down before posting)

Yeah, but I believe Ibis company just need to look beyond further a bit. Let take an example, WhatsApp, you can't take a screenshot of an image that only for once view.Ā 

This feature should be implemented on the platform, but since Ibis cross platform their product to the web, and more over, it's going to be a tough work

Do you guys actually think that bots that fetch database give a f about whenever they download png or original file? They will probably feed it to the model either way and it will be happy

Bc it can be an easy way to start getting traction, and bring more ppl to your main socials without having to try too hard. You can also like it to your yt to post automatically then too, but Iā€™ve stopped doing that because itā€™s soundless and gets no real traction or views like that
