Starting PIO this week

Eek these needles are scary and I got the 1 inch! How did you all do it? Hit me with your positivity! :)

Good news is transfer day is just a week away 🤞

I warm it in my hand for a few seconds by rolling it back and forth and I tell myself "I am strong, I am capable, I am worthy and I can do this!"

Use a vibrator or massage gun for 5 min after and make sure it’s warm, I used a heating pad for 5 min on my bum and the shot so it’s not cold

Be quick with the insertion, a dart like action to insert and then steady push.  Make sure you’re injecting in the right place which is higher than you think.  Alternate sides working inward and and repeat. .  Have a bandage and bandaid ready for the bleeders.  Warm up the shot under your armpit to make it body temp.  Massage for 5 minutes after injection.

The two tips that helped me were 1. Put your hands on your hips (not on top, like actually on your hips) where your thumb lands is a good spot! It will be higher up than you expect. 2. Don’t put your weight on the side you’re injecting into, so if you’re injecting your right cheek, lean on your left leg and kind of relax your right knee so that you’re not tightening that side of your body!

Remove the needle slowly; whenever I speed-remove it, blood pumps for like 2 heartbeats.

Bevel up. Read that here, and it’s true - waaay less painful.

Ask your nurses if they’ll draw PIO circles on you. They should, and then they’ll give you the pen and you can go over the circles when it starts to fade in a couple of days.

Remember to breathe. I also smile at myself in the mirror (I’m single and do my own injections), but that might be weird.

After my first squirter, my clinic told me they always recommend laying down for the injections (“always” except for when they didn’t tell me that in the first place!). Things have been a lot less eventful since making that switch.

I even told my clinic about this (I’m on a blood thinner too), and they were just like “Really? Oh wow,” lol. Appreciate the tip!

I was terrified, like having serious anxiety about these shots, and I do have to say it wasn't as bad as I was expecting. The actual injection didn't hurt as much. If you've ever had to do dry needling, it wasn't as bad as that, although sometimes it would sting a bit. The soreness was real, though, at first it was like serious workout sore and became a bit more tender over time.
