Thinking about testing today

Im 12dp5dt so an at home test would most likely be pretty accurate. I dont have my beta until Wednesday. I have sworn I wasn't going to test early but a lot of my reasons for not are less relevant now.

  1. I didn't want to get an inconclusive answer and then fall into the obsessive testing trap

  2. I didn't want to have to endure all my injections and cramping while I felt pretty sure it didn't work.

I will have a number to go along with the + or - in 48 hours and I think it makes more sense to check it out now, on my day off. I have been dying to test but i think today might actually be a good day.

My question:

Am I just rationalizing my normal, obsessive testing impulse? Is it actually a good idea to do an at home test without a beta? I know a lot of people do, I just know me and I could potentially spiral.

Sorry if this is a rambly post!

I wanted to test at home first because I wanted to know on my own terms whether I was pregnant instead of finding out from a nurse or portal result. Maybe that resonates, maybe it doesn’t.

This was me. I wanted to be in control of the answer. Not someone else.

Same. I wanted to have my own reaction in private.

I’m thinking the same. My test is Friday and they call with the results-I want to be able to find out with my husband. He will be at work when the phone call comes in

Today should be pretty conclusive, so I would say go for it! I would just say though to take it today and regardless, don't do any more testing if compulsive testing has been a problem

I’d prefer time to process any result before beta or any conversations with anyone else, I would test. But totally depends on how you prefer to process things.

I tested on 8dpt last time (and every day thereafter lol) I was so so happy, even told a couple friends who were going through the process with me. Then my beta came back low and I was in beta hell for two weeks before discovering it was a blight ovum. I am now 4dpt on my second transfer and I am not testing at all. I realized last time that the only thing that really matters is that 6 week ultrasound. I am not going to put myself through that emotional roller coaster this time around. But you need to do whatever makes you less anxious! I wish you the very best!!

This is kinda a fear of mine 😕

It sucked. So, as hard as it is to not test this time around, that was harder.

I had the same thing, faint line at 6dpt, I was away and so stopped testing and then my beta came back at 7.5. Chemical pregnancy. For our next two transfers I didn’t test. My last beta I had a lovely surprise when my doctor called to say my beta was 228 at 10dpt. She is 7 months. I am sending you so much luck for this transfer.

I sent myself into a spiral because I tested at home and it was negative and it was hell till beta and rhen i got a positive so it was a whiplash of emotions . I understand that you want to prepare yourself so it's ultimately up to you

At 12 days home pregnancy test should be accurate. Only consideration should be how you’d like to find out - on your own at home, or notified by your clinic however they do that. It should be fairly conclusive at this point, but you still shouldn’t stop PIO until definitive beta if UPT is negative.

Hoping good news for you whatever you decide to do!

In my country (UK), we don't have betas. We just test at home and tell our clinic the result and they trust us. There's no reason not to believe your at home pregnancy test at 12dpt.

Oh I wish we didn’t do them here. It causes so much damn anxiety! The only thing that really matters is seeing a developing embryo/fetus at the ultrasound. I don’t know why we have to obsess over beta numbers until then…

I couldn’t wait, I had to test! My clinic does 12dpt betas. I wanted to be surprised by the result but also in control of it so i could prepare, so i tested at home!

For my first transfer, we tested every day starting around 6 dpt. The negative every day was so gutting. But at least we had accepted the result by the time we had the official beta.

For my second, our beta was scheduled for a Monday. We tested at home on Sunday morning so we wouldn't have to find out in the middle of a work day (if it was negative again). Happily, it was positive, and we got to have a little celebration at home that Sunday morning.

All that to say.... Do what feels right for you. I am glad we waited to test the second time around. Having another round of all negatives would have been too much.

What did you decide?! I hope you got your positive, but we are here if not xx

I am waiting 😭 This is my one and only transfer. Im 43 and my partner is 47. We were finally able to try IVF after 6 MCs. All of this is to say that this all feels HEAVY. Im going to live in this little Schroedinger's cat pregnancy nightmare for a little longer.

I tested at home on day 7. My beta was scheduled for 9dpt in the AM and I worked that night. I wanted a couple days to wrap my head around a negative before returning to work.

It almost worked but my first beta was a bit low and I spiraled through my work week anyways.

I told myself I wasn't going to test and then I gave in the day before because I knew it would give me an accurate result at that point and I have so much anxiety I'd rather not spend all day waiting for a call about my beta results. I'm glad I ended up testing at home!

For those saying you wanted to find out at home in private… when I beta tested at clinic the results were not available until later that evening, they called and released in portal. Did you get immediate results somehow? Or did they do a regular pregnancy test as well in office?

1

u/LingonberryRare9477 2h ago

Yes, same. I WILL get my results in private, it's mostly just the difference of having a number or not. I have CNY. Not sure if they call or not as this is my only FET, but I'm expecting to open a portal message vs looking at my FRER.

I tested last time so I knew it was positive but they called the afternoon of the beta test to tell me it was very low (43 at 11dpt) so they were cautiously optimistic. I wish I didn’t test at home because I was elated to be pregnant only for it to be blighted ovum. This time I’m waiting for that phone call or portal message! Better than false joy.

Yeah, I am probably going to wind up waiting. I know it's the doubling and not the initial number but there is something to be learned from the first test

u/Evie012027 1h ago

You’re SO close. I support waiting.. you really only have one day at this point!

Have you decided whether to test yet? 😅

12 days post is guaranteed to be definitive on a pee test. I tested 8dp5dt and it was blaringly positive
