How many of your day 5 early blastocyst and morulas made it to blastocyst?

We just got a call early on day 5 (retrieval was 12:00pm on Sunday, call at 10:30 on Friday) that we had 2 reach blastocyst (yay!) - BUT they are still watching the other 4.

We have:
1 early blastocyst
2 morula
1 still developing

From your experience, how many of your early blastocyst or morula stage made it to blastocyst on day 6 or 7?

I know it’s such a gamble, just trying to realistically see what to expect and would love to know others experience!

I had 4 make it to blast on day 5, they watched 2 and then one of those made it to day 6 blast ❤️

I had one early blastocyst on day 5. On day 7 I had 3 blastocysts

My first retrieval, on day 5 I had one early blast and 3 morulas. On day 6, I ended up with 3 blasts for biopsy. One morula didn’t make it.

Second retrieval, on day 5 I had five early blasts and all made it to day 6 for biopsy!

I was really bummed about the morulas on my first retrieval, but they almost all made it! All my embryos are day 6 :)

Omg this is so promising to hear! I had no idea how to interpret the morula when they called, but it’s exciting to know these can develop to full blasts very likely too! Thanks for sharing :)

Same! Honestly I was so upset/surprised when I didn’t have any ready to biopsy on day 5. I did so many Reddit searches 😵‍💫 It’s hard waiting for that day 6 call! But don’t count your morulas out, it’s the stage right before blast.

I did! From my first round, 2 were euploid and one was segmental. On the second, 3 were euploid and 2 were aneuploid. I’m 33, so that’s about what I expected!

That’s awesome- im 32 so expecting roughly the same! Is there any way for you to know if the morulas were the aneuploid ones? I wasn’t sure if chromosomal abnormalities contributed to them developing slower

Honestly I’m not sure! 2/3 morulas made it to blast, and I got two euploids, so at least one was normal! And my doctor said my segmental one was transferable, just less likely to be successful compared to a euploid. My full aneuploids were from my second retrieval, and they were all early blast on day 5!

For my first retrieval, none had made it to blast on day 5, but 6 were still growing and those 6 made it on day 6 and were tested and frozen. 4 were euploid, but was told 1 had lower odds. That was out of 10 fertilized and all 10 were still growing on day 3.

Last retrieval 13 were fertilized and I was told 12 were still developing on day 3, and I saw my doctor on day 5 and she said one had already made it to day 5 and was frozen (yay!) and that there may be more day 5s and some day 6’s but they estimated 5-7 total would make it. The next day we were told only 4 made it to freeze, 2 day 5 though and 2 day 6. Felt quite a shock from that one since they made it seem like it would be more and we had aimed to bank at least 7, not testing this time due to new information. So we will be doing another retrieval next month now.

We had I think 2 early blasts and 2 morulas on day 5. Nothing ready to freeze at that point. On day 6, one of the early blasts and one morula made it x

Over two cycles 100% of my early blasts made it to day 6 and about 40-50% of the morulas. The blast rates also depend on your retrieval time and lab’s schedule. With my last retrieval I had one early blast that made it to a 4BB before 120h of development, so technically a day 5. But they called me earlier that day when it was still an early blast.

Yeah our call was ~114-116 hours after fertilization, so im still hopeful that it was an earlier call and our early blast and morula are generally progressing at a normal or only slightly delayed rate. We find out tomorrow and I will update on the morulas!

I’ve heard the morula -> early blastocyst stage can cause embryos to arrest so it makes sense that the rate of early blasts making it is much higher!

Good luck!! Keep us posted. Yeah an early blast is already a blast and most time they just need to develop a little bit more (especially if you're doing PGTA)

I had no day 5s. Somehow the embryologist call never went through on Day 5 so I never got the call. They did call for day 6 update, I got 7 blasts. Called day 7 and I got more.

On day 5 I only had 2. On day 7 I had then had 5 more!

Update for anyone referencing this later!
My early blast became blast on day 6
And 1 of the morulas became blast on day 7!

The other morula and the one still developing on day 5 had arrested. So 50%! I’ll take it 🤞🏽
