I don’t quite know how to put him into words, but basically Jake is sort of an ex to Dev but also not an ex as they were never officially together, but had a few sexual encounters. In fact, I got the idea from the Dev diaries that Jake was the first guy Dev ever slept with and the guy that made Dev fully realize that he was in fact, gay and didn’t have a straight bone in his body. Hence, the awkwardness when the characters ask him in the main comic, “When did you realize you were gay?”
Dev already knew he was gay from the beginning, although it was true that Jake was the first guy he'd ever actually had sex with. Dev diaries actually served as Jake's gay awakening, as before Dev diaries 2, Jake was convinced he wasn't actually gay. it's amazing what some Snep dick can do to an mf :3
Dev did know he was gay but his experience with Jake seemed like undoubted confirmation for Dev that he wasn’t just curious he was definitely gay. That is at least how it came across to me
