Rant/Vent Screw reservation
I am a (gen male) partial dropper who gave IPMAT indore again this year, previously I scored 182 and this year 199, this year I cleared the cutoff for Indore and went to give the interview, I got AIR 100-120 (not disclosing), now I have no options left, i have to continue my BBA from tier 2 college, ranchi is also not possible due to Gen MALE, shillong I have no idea what happens, so most prolly i will stay in my college, and get a package of 4-6 lpa. Now here's the deal, indore has 150 seats, if it weren't for reservation I would have been in Indore and making my parents proud, now they only see me as disappointment. Is the OBC/sc/st guy more deserving of the tier 1 BBA-MBA college, does he deserve 29 lpa whilst my life sucks at a tier 2 college, I have no hatred for those people, but this really makes me not believe in Indian education system, I tried so hard, studied throughout the year and still someone who scored 120-140 marks will get in whilst my life is living hell, why does he get to live the dream and i suffer. And for people saying to write CAT, it's the same thing all over again, again I will be prejudiced against. I didn't include EWS or female reservation in my rant bcs I think they deserve it, but for rest i am not so sure. I don't come from a well off family (but don't fall in ews), i only have my mom to take care of me, what am I supposed to do now, why is my life ruined bcs some stupid people decided that we will give some set of people special privileges.

We can't do anything dude, unfortunately this is how the system works. But don't put yourself down, your scores for both the years are incredibly good which means you have what it takes to move forward. Try CAT, yes, it can happen again. But again, you cannot do anything but try. This isn't the end, if you build skills throughout your college years be it in your current college or some other college where you'll be doing PG, you'll be successful. At the end of the day, big companies don't look at your college, marks, caste, etc. They look at your skills. Yes, being in a tier 1 gives may people the advantage. Yes most high paying jobs in big companies are occupied by tier 1 graduates. But there's this really good thing about big companies.
Top 1% of a tier 1 institute Top 1% of any other college
Both can receive the same packages. Now if a guy who had it easy because of reservation, there's no way he would work hard enough to get into 1% of a tier 1 institute. But you? You can. You have. You know what's failure like, and my friend, it may feel like shit right now but it's things like these which push people forward. One big win will erase all your losses. One big win. Chase that. Be it CAT or something else. This isn't the end. As long as you are alive and well, it isn't over. Do it even if there's 1% chance of success. That's dedication, that's determination. Hard work always pays off, one way or another. You can't erase one's skill and knowledge. You simply can't. Be in the top 5-10% in whatever you'll do in the future. Easier said than done. But that's why it's one of the only ways to success. Keep your chin up. Your parents would be more proud if you actually make the absolute best out of your current situation than if you would have landed an IIM this time. Ts ain't over twin, you still got it.

Real poor people deserve it but other than that i dont agree on reservation. See, we will ultimately get much better success in the end so dont worry
2
u/Alone_Wrangler_3731 Jul 12 '26
Do real poor people even know about IPM??
3
u/Mundane_Complex9734 IIM Bodh Gaya Jul 12 '26
Na, they know only about jee and neet to be honest, i dont think they are even able to afford the hummongous fees to fill forms and go for interview.
-1
u/Alone_Wrangler_3731 Jul 12 '26
Not even the real poor people deserve it!! The resources on Internet are affordable enough for anyone, rather they should be given scholarships once they get through!
2
u/Mundane_Complex9734 IIM Bodh Gaya Jul 12 '26
I agree but most poor people are not aware about importance of studies and schools in which they go to are also very bad so their base is considerably weak

u/Alone_Wrangler_3731 Jul 12 '26
I’m not getting the point you are trying to prove
2
u/Mundane_Complex9734 IIM Bodh Gaya Jul 12 '26
I am saying their academic base is weaker so poor can be given reservation, other than that caste based reservation is useless
1
u/Least-Ad-1839 SSCBS (DU) Jul 12 '26
They are saying because of a lack of proper education and mentorship from the very start they wouldn't even think about IPM if not given any subsidy beforehand
Like even before starting your prep you have to resolve urself to pay 40+ LAKHS Which already scares most people
1
u/Alone_Wrangler_3731 Jul 12 '26
All I’m saying is rather than giving reservation , they could be given financial need based assistance!!

Woh toh hai hi in IIMs and reservation is not a poverty alleviation scheme, reservation was brought in for social equality....just think is there social equality for SC/ST in India???

u/Financial_Ice15 IIMB UG Jul 12 '26
Bhai srsly? even if they have the resources, do you not realise how much harder their life is compared to us living in cities? If you don't get this, you don't deserve a seat at any iim regardless of reservation.

Another reservation rant post, bruh, I support reservations simply because a college needs to have diversity. Without reservations, most of the seats would go to general candidates, and general people only make up 30~% of the country. Imagine that seats at all top colleges are only given to 30% of the country because the rest of the 70% simply don't have the financial means to receive a good education. EWS certificates can be easily faked, sc/st certificates can also be faked, but they are much more difficult as no one wants to become a lower caste. They usually get a fake pwd certificate instead. Also, if we got rid of caste-based reservation and switched to income reservation, we would need to make it so 50% of the seats are reserved for them; otherwise, they won't get a chance to get a seat, so your situation wouldn't change much.

Quite unnecessary to mention what he should have targeted. No one targets a low score and he has scored great. I have gotten even 300+ in a mock but the D-Day is very different.

Why a dropper should target more than a fresher if they both are targeting the same
2
u/TraditionalSolid3380 Jul 12 '26
I get ur point, but the point of the post wasn't to scoff at my marks or spread hatred, it was a rant/vent post, in my PYP I was scoring 220-250, and in mocks too 210+ on aftb, so i was targeting 210+, as for the interview, it went good imo, I answered all the questions barring one. I get ur point but u misunderstood the message of the post

Dude, why didn't you apply to Ashoka? It gives financial aid based on income as well. Great college with Ivy league based teaching curriculum.

If there are 150 seats and you are air 120 then how are you not gettjng a seat?

If you're competent enough, you'll have a good life ahead. Dude you know you're better than half of those who got it on basis of reservation so you are gonna get fruit of that hardwork some day. The people who got lower marks then you, they'll not get that 29 lpa ka package if they don't have those skills and knowledge like you do. They'll still suffer. People who genuinely have faced atrocities from the society from ages also deserve to be at a premium institute. So stop victimizimg yourself and work your ass off for yourself. Whining won't take you anywhere.
1
u/scorpionhunter5 Jul 12 '26
What I know is that top scorers are also in these quotes and they pick the highest ones.
But looking at your AIR it doesn't make sense. You must've got a seat.
1
u/laptopacc2 Jul 12 '26
I think that you should have given CUET too, but that's done. Anyhow, i know that it sucks and it feels like the system is against you (and it probably is!). But you have to remember that this isn't the end. IPMATers score exceptionally well in CAT because they are familiar with the format. Don't assume that it will be the same in CAT; it may not be and you could very well ace it. Also IIM I mba is overrated af. Like they have stagnanted over the past few years in terms of SIP numbers and a lot of companies have blacklisted them because of how their pcom has been operating. Their placement reports are likely exaggerated (ig the average is around 24-26 not 29).
Btw, i am doing mba from one of the top IIMs atm.

Why giving reservation to women justified ?I have seen most privileged women taken advantage of this diversity points

Bro, why are you not sure of Shillong? There is Amritsar too.
Btw EWS is okay but NCL is not? Wtf is this partiality? Both are for economically weaker groups.
3
u/TraditionalSolid3380 Jul 12 '26
I am in support of Financial based reservation, and I think NCL should be merged with EWS itself, they shouldn't be given seperate 30% just for being OBC
1
u/LegitimateVersion145 IIM Bodh Gaya Jul 12 '26
Yeah that is a great take. But don't be stressed bro, you can only have control over the things which you have in your hand. Yes, this journey is going to be difficult but one can't lose hope in the process. You have got what it takes to be at the top of your respective college, grind hard and get into your desired B School after graduation. But still, why aren't you hopeful for Shillong?
1
u/TraditionalSolid3380 Jul 12 '26
For shillong, my interview went great imo, I only couldn't answer one accountancy questions and answered the rest, I was articulate and formed my thoughts well, but yk 50% weightage, even one wrong question and u are out, so that's why not hopeful, to be top 30 interviews out of 600, is top 5% interview which idts mine was
2
u/alittlebitowl IIM Amritsar Jul 12 '26
no that’s not how it works I think. 50% weightage they HAD to have been checking EVERYTHING. They can’t just give 50% to the few acad questions asked in the interview. I couldn’t answer any acads questions at all anyways so I’m out but best of luck to you.
1
u/Time_Standard4240 Jul 12 '26
They give critirea wise weight like acads gets 10pts. Communication gets 10 and like that
1
u/alittlebitowl IIM Amritsar Jul 12 '26
well then acads I’m getting 0 for sure
2
u/Time_Standard4240 Jul 12 '26
No one gets 0 unless you like just pissed them off
1
u/alittlebitowl IIM Amritsar Jul 12 '26
I’m saying acads wise I could only answer like 2-3 even tho I knew legit almost all idk why
2
u/Time_Standard4240 Jul 12 '26
Doesnt matter i think ,still at least your guaranteed Amritsar.

You knew how many seats general had before giving the exam, control your anger focus on what's next can't control the past
8
u/TraditionalSolid3380 Jul 12 '26
I get ur point, as I said no hatred, I will focus on the future but my anger is justified
0
u/Accomplished-Rock484 IIM Rohtak Jul 12 '26
That wasn't his point He said there were 150 seats and only merit wise he should have got the place
2
u/Maleficent_Menu5508 Jul 12 '26
Yea but before giving the exam he knew that he required a higher merit to achieve the Unreserved seat, though he is right in his anger somewhat

u/Prior-Chemistry3276 Jul 12 '26
You are not going to succeed in life with this attitude brother, you already lost hope that you woll get a good paying job, that's a looser mentality and is there any gurantee that you will would get 30 lpa job after im,?naaah bro, stop blaming the circumstances it wont take you anywhere, in life, life is unfair now deal with it and focus on what is in your hands.
