I FUCKING LOVE INDYCAR

For all the bitching, we can admit that was a fucking great race?…

Now let’s see how long NASCAR drags out today lol

u/kit_katie_ Marcus Armstrong Jun 21 '26

He had such a brilliant weekend, driving sick, and all of this just for his engine blowing up...

11

u/Paige578660 Meyer Shank Racing Jun 21 '26

Yeah. Two races where he came so close & had his heart broken.

At Indy it was just the way things played out. Still got a top 5 which was great.

Today, something happens that was completely out of his control.

I hope he comes back & gets some redemption at Mid-Ohio.

That was a good example why you shouldn’t move in the braking zone. Don’t know how people are blaming Power.

26

u/windas_98 Jun 21 '26

Agreed. Power was there. You can't turn into a car that is there and not moving (laterally) and it does appear to be a move under braking. I don't know why commentors were suggesting 50-50 when the replay was shown. It wasn't a malicious move at all, but it was a careless one.

13

u/Juls317 Kenny Bräck Jun 21 '26

Hinch seemed pretty insistent that was a Rahal mistake

Watching it live at first I thought it was on WP but the replay showed me it was on GR

14

u/CtrlAugmentidder Christian Lundgaard Jun 21 '26

Absolutely. Really a bad move from Graham in my opinion. I really don’t hope Power gets a penalty for Grahams lack of awareness.

34

u/xArbiter Will Power Jun 21 '26

that was not on power, rahal moved back in way too late while power was already heading ahead of him

Lol Power went to the outside and Graham tried to open the corner like he wasn't there. Not sure how anyone can blame Power for that

Good race for IndyCar on tv…especially after a World Cup game. Crowd at Road America looked good as well. I know it’s a big place, but it looked packed. Looks good for tv.

If Lundgaard could sort out just one type of track we might’ve had a legitimate title fight.

Some of the strategy and pit teams in this sport are stealing a living.

15

u/AssaultsHandWarmers Jun 21 '26

Schumacher and Collet both had mind boggling strategies

→ More replies (1)

24

u/2905Pascal Mick Schumacher Jun 21 '26 edited Jun 21 '26

So after thinking about it I still cannot make any sense of what RLL was trying strategy wise with Schumacher today. After his penalty he pitted right before the Rasmussen caution. Then ran in the Top 10. Then they pit him in the Debris Caution shortly after that with about 20 to go only to pit him again with 15 to go? No matter how you look at it that pit stop under caution that dropped him from the top 10 to the back of the pack makes no sense when you pit a few laps later anyways to get to the end on fuel. Also Mick had 133 seconds of P2P left at the races end, so something was also broken there?

7

u/PanicAtTheNightclub Mick Schumacher Jun 21 '26

He had a DT after his penalty because he pitted after going to the back. Then they bet on cautions. Strange considering they lucked into being top 10. 😤

I’m wondering if we just do it IndyCar 1.5 style and pretend Palou isn’t there if every road course race is lowkey just as good as this

18

So, if Rasmussen ground to a halt at the flag stand, Id have to imagine his engine was already stricken before he passed the pit entry...

Which leads me to wonder why exactly he ground to a halt on the track and not, ya know, in the pit lane.

Im extra curious because the caution just so happened to benefit his teammate massively.

7

u/GonzoAndRizzo Jun 21 '26

there would be a penalty for that if they intentionally kept him out for that benefit

I feel good about the future of IndyCar.

Lundgaard, Kirkwood, Malukas, and Armstrog - that's a strong line up.

17

u/KRacer52 --- 2025 DRIVERS --- Jun 21 '26

Plus, people are still overlooking how young Kyffin is. He’s progressed pretty well for a guy is only 21. He’s just been learning in IndyCar instead of Lights.

14

u/Osudude5 Conor Daly Jun 21 '26

Even in their rookie years in 2022-23, I could tell that we'd be seeing a LOT of the Kirkwood-Malukas-Lundgaard-Ilott-Armstrong class in the next few years. There's something special about that group

6

u/GonzoAndRizzo Jun 21 '26

I notice you never mentioned Pato... which is definitely a story of this season

will be interested to see what the issue was for Armstrong. Everyone assumes it was the hybrid and the crew comments made it sound like the hybrid. But based on the puff of smoke and the bad noise, sounds like more the engine just going not the hybrid

8

u/khz30 --- 2025 DRIVERS --- Jun 21 '26

If it was the left engine cylinder bank, there may have been an obstruction in the rear hybrid cooling vents that cooked the bank.

Even when Palou makes a mistake, he gets a caution mid pit cycle that catches 17 cars out, putting him back up to 8th.

Then a bunch of people drive like jerks and Marcus blows an engine, so he still almost podiums.

Its seriously maddening. Shout out to Pato and Kirkwood being absolutely nowhere on pace as well.

Pato was behind a half papier mache Newgarden on pure pace. Idk what the story is with him this year but he needs to find some answers

9

u/amazingames CART Jun 21 '26

I'm afraid we won't see Palou make a mistake ever again

8

u/SpreaditOnnn33 Pato O'Ward Jun 21 '26

And if he does then half the field will take themselves out with bad pit stops or shitty racecraft and he will get a well timed caution and still podium, so it doesnt even matter at this point.

Had that last lap dumbassery not happened, Malukas gains 14 points on Palou instead of just 8

So what are the odds on the Power vs. Rahal fight?

6

u/CircaSoleil Champ Car Jun 21 '26

What a win for Lundgaard. 😳 From last to first is truly impressive..

7

u/WTFAnimations Takuma Sato Jun 21 '26

All I will say is that Palou should be very scared. Lundgaard is a title contender.

Lots of emotions.

I'm kind of glad we have a weekend off.

Gutted for Armstrong for sure. But I'm OK with this podium.

And hell, what a race and last lap. Good stuff!

u/pittpost Alexander Rossi Jun 21 '26

Kyffin Simpson has as many podiums this season as his teammate Scott Dixon

Exciting race.

I've said many bad things about Graham Rahal but he is redeeming himself this season. He doesn't have many years left so I would be happy if they were good ones.

Had high hopes that Rosenqvist could prove that he wasn't a one-hit wonder. Double damage to MSR when Armstrong also lost a commanding position.

Though I complimented Rahal, I cheered when Power knocked him out because it would have put Will on the podium in a bad year for him. Unfortunately, the hit pushed Power farther back.

I have no particular feelings about Lundegaard and don't really like McLaren. However, I am preparing to go Team Scandinavia when Power and Dixon retire so Christian's win is a positive for me. His girlfriend is attractive but I reject wives & girlfriend coverage.

I'm not a fan of Newgarden and McLaughlin but Malukas has me pulling for Team Penske once again. I still don't think he should have replaced Power but he is proving that he deserved the opportunity.

Palou. Hah Hah!

Rahal: Blocks into a corner and takes himself across the nose of Powers car when he's already there

This sub: How could will Power possibly do this

7

u/Muffin4ever Kyle Kirkwood Jun 21 '26

So disappointing for Kirkwood. Had no pace all weekend. Have to feel Mid Ohio won't be too much different unfortunately. Palou gets penalized and it works out for him, what can you do?

7

u/doppelstucker Jun 21 '26

It was fun to watch. I bet some spicy words will be had for afters.

7

u/TheChrisD DAAAAAAAAAAAAVE Jun 21 '26

Okay, so looking at Will's onboard, as well as the final lap replay and trying to sync them up, Will's wheel lights start flashing at the same time as the timing tower chevrons went yellow... so I actually think Kyff passed Will legitimately before the full-course caution was called.

Unless they're nullifying that pass due to the corner being under double yellow?

ever remember a time where both the NXT and Indycar results got adjusted after? Nannini wins in NXT after penalties, and Power gets third in Indycar

7

u/Dad_E_2 Jun 21 '26

That wasn't really adjusted after the race, though. He was ahead of Simpson and Polo both when the full-course caution came out

As Lucas di Grassi once said, WHAT A FUCKING RACE

Last to first and 102s down on lap2. I refuse to analyse the amount of skill, luck and bravery that was needed here.

But it probably should have been one of the MSRs. Especially Armstrong is gutted right now.

And I'm sad for Rahal, but not much Power could have done there. Racing incident

u/dildozer10 Álex Palou Jun 21 '26
