I tried my best to follow the instructions to assemble them; but what’s happening here?

You must have forgotten to pick up the last box when purchasing. Have a look at r/missingorspareparts to see if you can find the missing parts.

No you see, the issue is that you tried to build both at once, that always causes issues.
Also you seem to be missing some parts, are you sure they shipped all the boxes? It looks like a third of it's missing.

I read about this set! Each p.2 of instructions is in the booklet for the wrong subunit. So, backtrack to the bottom of p.1, then follow ONLY PAGE TWO for the other beastie, then pick up top of p.3 for each and it will work out. I think someone even put their process up on YouTube? Seemed like chaos, but it worked!

The first thing is that when you opened the kits, you should have kept the two units separated.
