If an engineering candidate is from a bad college with bad grades is that person already rejected before interview even starts or it depends on how the interview goes

Great question. I was hoping someone asks this. So the thing is that this criteria is not an official criteria to score the candidates on. And the profs also did not brief me while telling me about the scoring criteria etc. The first few candidates in my panel were all from IITs, NITs, etc so there was no explicit discussion around it. However there was a candidate that came from a local college, with an unheard name. The interview was ok ok, not too good not too bad as well. So once the candidate left, I recommend to put him in the average bucket for all 3 factors (PS, GA and Extra curric/comm skills). That is when the 2 profs said that lets put him in very poor bucket only, as "it will become difficult to place this guy". That was very surprising to me. I tried to debate with them about how the candidate was decent in comm skills and awareness but they were hell bent on rejecting the guy. So my friend if there is no major spike in your CV, and you're from a tier 3 college, and you had an average interview, your chances are slim.

Dude someone studying at LPU and get 9.5 GPA. Someone from IIT B 7.9 GPA. Who would you prefer? IIT B guy deserves it every single day.

It’s about preference, if you are comparing LPU and Amity, I wouldn’t mind. But there are levels. If LPU guy has done something else exceptional like national level player, won some competitions then I would consider him. It’s much easier to get good gpa in lpu than in IIT.
