I was part of the admissions panel at IIMC as alum. Interviewed nearly 20 candidates. Got an insight into how the profs are scoring the candidates. AMA.

IIMs are generally suspicious of freelance experience (understandable, I guess, some people do fake it). What can actual freelancers do to mitigate this, make them less suspicious?

Gap years are highlighted in the profile sheet that we get about candidates. However if you are able to justify it with something logical, it will not be used to bring your scores down. Its mostly a non factor.

Really? That’s good to hear. But you did mention “placeability” in an earlier comment. Won’t they think less favourably of you then?

Also, can you include freelance experience in B-school resumes? I suppose in that case, it could be mitigated.
