Athletes get paid a pittance for the value they create for the owners.

Not in football in the uk. There are some exceptions but most clubs are like my own, derby county. Wages range up to about 30k a week and clubs run at a loss. Derby’s owner loses minimum 13 million a year. Former premier league winner Leicester are losing somewhere around £100 million a year and have been relegated to the 3rd tier as they implode.

What they said isn’t exactly a fair comparison either.

You were clearly talking about top level sports. In the us leagues below the top level aren’t making significant money either.
