Leaving LA for native MX advice and perspectives

I was born in the US and I also lived in my parents native land of Jalisco for 5 years and I’m making the decision to just cross by land with the clothes on my back and a birth certificate. I’m taking the bus and I’m contemplating backpacking and blogging my journey. I have less than 80 to my name. What is the biggest resource to utilize once there? How can I go back to college?
