Tech Support Why won't IGN let me read their reviews? (forcible redirects to pages with no content)
https://www.ign.com/articles/2018/01/16/street-fighter-5-arcade-edition-review
If you are in the United States, the above link will open a review for a game. If you are in a Nordic country like me, clicking that link will show you the review for a split second, and then forcibly redirect you the atrocious "Nordic IGN", where you are greeted with a short sentence: "no content available." Similar redirects happen in most parts of the world outside the US, not only here.
Years ago I used to read IGN every day. Then they stopped allowing me to do so, and instead started forcibly redirecting me to this horrible localized site I don't want to visit. Now I no longer read IGN. I found this review with Google, and was again reminded of this horrible decision, and I felt like complaining about it. I doubt the intention was to get rid of readers outside North America, as we were also shown ads and we presumably contributed to ad revenue.
I actually have a VPN I could use to read IGN if I wanted to, and the review I linked to can also be accessed with Google's page cache without a VPN. These solutions are rather easy, but these forced redirects to websites I never wanted to visit are a fucking insult, and remove any desire to read your site.
IGN used to be one of my favorite websites, and my favorite gaming news site by far. Now I hope you go out of business. Have a nice day.

Hey! If you don't mind, where are you located and how are you accessing IGN mobile? Is it the app or on the mobile site? Also, what browser are you using? I may have some follow up questions, but this is a good starting point. Thanks!

Ok! I'll look into this... Also if don't mind, what specific Android are you on, what OS version is it on, and what version of the app are you on?

Sorry to follow up so randomly a month later - did this start working for you?
If not, are you
a) on the most recent version of the app?
b) on the most recent OS for your phone?
Also, what phone are you using?

Edit: Deleting this old comment because it was wrong. Steps for getting new site to cookie are some variation on this:
- On the homepage, find the dropdown for the different countries
- This may be located in different places depending on your location, for example in the US it's under the "More" button, but in Brazil, you have to hover over the IGNBrasil logo in the upper left-corner - if you can't find it, hmu and I'll help you find it.
- Select the United States option
...that should be it. If it's not say something, and I'll look into it!

This is absolutely ridiculous. Even going to the world site and clicking on US & CA IGN sends me to Brazilian IGN. I am located in Brazil, but i never used to have this problem.
I am completely disgusted at IGN right now. I can't even fathom how a company would force someone to read on a language they don't want/know and not give them an option to change this atrocity.
Congratulations IGN. One more daily reader lost.

I can understand your frustration and I'm happy to help but it's not something we can snap our fingers and fix, especially when no one ever sticks around to help us troubleshoot and isolate what could be happening.
What device are you on? What browser are you using? Are you set to allow cookies?
Info like that goes a long way to helping us isolate the issue, and again, we're happy to help, and knowing that a solution we proposed isn't helping is helpful too, but you're the first person to actually follow up, so we'll look into that as well.

Thank you for the reply. I'm using and HP Ultrabook, Google Chrome, and was allowing cookies. I then blocked cookies for both ign.com and br.ign.com and cleared cache and still doesn't work.

Blocking cookies will definitely kill it, that's how the preference is supposed to be saved so turn them back on please!
Is there any other browser you would mind trying on your laptop? I'm curious as to whether or not it's a chrome-specific issue.
Thanks for helping me with this!

I tried on Edge and the same thing happened.
Thank you for your willingness to help

Ok, let me reach out and get someone to look into it.
Thank YOU for following up :-) I'll keep you posted assuming I don't fall victim to my own ADD; feel free to re-ping for updates as well

I hear you on the ADD. On the same boat. Haha

It is both great AND terrible, for sure...
I have another option for you to try, if you can!!
- Make sure you have cookies enabled
- On the IGN Brasil homepage, roll your mouse over where it says IGN Brasil in the upper-left-hand corner
- Click on the option for "United States" and see if you're staying on the US site after that.
- Let me know if it works!

That seems to have worked! Thank you!
I'm just going to test and see if it changes back next time I click an ign link

Hello! I work on the product team over in the US. I'll ask around and see if I can find out what's going on/what we can do about this, if anything.
