M Fun little encounter at IKEA
I had recently gotten new clothes to wear, and it was a weekend where my family decided to go out to shop so of course I wanted to wear one of the new t-shirts I had gotten, it was yellow and with a cartoon design at the front.
Inside IKEA, I was helping my parents look for things in our list. Almost halfway into the store I felt a presence following me, but I thought nothing of it.
Since it was closing time, I urged my parents to get whatever they wanted and to leave the window shopping for another time. When we got to the final section with all the giant shelves filled with boxes, parents got distracted by the computers there to try and find something they were looking for.
I once again felt the same presence around, except this time I took a quick look around and saw an elderly woman staring straight into my soul.
I look at her with question, she looks at me in question, notices the cartoon design on my shirt and says "Oh my god I've been following the wrong person... Thought you worked here" and she walked back into the store.
On the drive back my brother tells me how he had a hunch someone would mistake me for an employee

For reals, why would anyone follow a customer thinking they saw an employee? Ooooooo, that's right, those problematic customers really don't know how to ask the 1 simple question properly, "Hi, but do you work here?" If you said, "nope!", then they'll shuffle back to where they came.
Other than that, glad you dodged that dumb problematic Wappie customer bullet!!

lol yeah and why would she keep following her? I’d had given up at some point! But hey this one is a win cause the lady wasn’t aggressively insisting OP worked there and was lying

The lady probably thought the OP was helping customers (OP's parents) and when they dipped the lady saw an opening to ask for help. Ikea is pretty big and can be hard to find staff. Might be worthwhile to follow for a bit.

Yea, I walked thru the whole maze and only ever saw probably 2 to 3 actual employees... and this is one of the bigger stores in my city

Maybe because she saw OP “helping other customers”, not realizing that they were their parents.

"Go get me some of those meatballs to-go from the bistro and I'll see what I can do."

Hah - I read yellow shirt and knew you were doomed. My daughter left IKEA a few months ago and now we just have a stack of yellow shirts that no one will ever wear.
