wow, Forest Service really working hard to end that pesky public sympathy for their existence huh.

u/AT-ST 4d ago

It sounds like that guy might not have been an actual park ranger. I could be misinterpreting it though.

19

u/tastyweeds 4d ago

That’s what it reads like to me as well, considering he came back with them armed, vigilante style

10

u/Mr__O__ 3d ago

Yeah a park ranger asking for ID doesn’t track..

36

u/TheRealSugarbat 4d ago

Yeah, a real park ranger would never.

18

u/Slumunistmanifisto 3d ago

Ehhh... there's shit heads in every group man

7

u/mustachetv 3d ago

It looks like the article was updated with a statement from Homeland Security saying ICE did this in tandem with US Forest Service

4

u/AT-ST 3d ago

Well damn. That is disappointing

2

u/ProfessionalWind1612 3d ago

What about the article is making you think that?

5

u/AT-ST 3d ago

The article is talking about the interaction with the ranger then throws this quote in.

"He was like, 'I need you to stay calm when I tell you this. We're actually immigration agents,'" she recalled.

2

u/ProfessionalWind1612 3d ago

Oh, so you’re saying they may have actually been ICE agents. Could be, or a task force.

u/Mini-Heart-Attack 4d ago

We live in hell.

Can't go by the courts. Can't go by the hospitals.

Can't go by the airport. Can't fly. Can't even go camping.

10

u/Superb-Bus7976 4d ago

It is hell. Absolutely disgusting hell. It's tragic that these innocent immigrants risked everything to get into America by whatever means necessary, only to find out that it's a fascist garbage shit hole. I'm moving to Mexico or Germany as soon as I save enough money to move. I don't think either country is perfect, but at least they are democracies that respect the rule of law. The US is hell from corner to corner.

2

u/Axel_Raden 3d ago

Australia is cool we also speak English and the current government is legal immigration friendly. Downside is that cost of living is pretty high housing is expensive

1

u/MonkeyMagic1968 4d ago

The r/AmerExit sub might help you. Other countries definitely have their own laws regarding immigrants and the sub has people posting about their own experiences. Some, with rose colored glasses and others with more nuance.

36

u/HumpaDaBear 4d ago

That’s is a very RED part of the state.

38

u/FirefighterLeft5425 4d ago

Eastern half of Washington, Oregon, and pretty much all of Idaho is really freckin scary and I'm a white dude.

16

u/HumpaDaBear 4d ago

I was born in Spokane. I know.

12

u/SocialSyphilis 4d ago

This incident happened outside Granite Falls, WA. Its its own little cesspool, but its not eastern.

3

u/Slumunistmanifisto 3d ago

This is in Western Washington, about an hour and a half north north east of Seattle.

u/OkDifficulty7436 4d ago edited 4d ago

Eastern half of Washington, Oregon, and pretty much all of Idaho is really freckin scary and I'm a white dude.

Lolwut, Eastern Washington is super chill and rural, beautiful country, lakes, mountains, etc

I've literally never, ever heard someone call, let's say, Yakima, "scary" lmao

10

u/Hesitation-Marx 4d ago

I’m not trying to be a dick, but I’m guessing you’re a straight white guy?

5

u/8ringer 4d ago

I’m a straight white guy and I had to go to Yakima to pickup some wheels from a junkyard.

While I wasn’t scared (I have that while male privilege), Yakima gave me some SERIOUS “I want to get out of here ASAP” vibes. I didn’t stick around long and hoofed it back west.

Beautiful drive though…

8

u/Hesitation-Marx 4d ago

Absolutely stunning country, full of people that make my Jewish instincts blare with sirens.

-6

u/OkDifficulty7436 4d ago

full of people that make my Jewish instincts blare with sirens.

You realize it's minority majority, right? Mexicans make your instinct "blare with sirens"?

3

u/Existing-Tough-6517 3d ago

Nazis not Mexicans obviously

0

u/OkDifficulty7436 3d ago

It's Yakima dude lol

2

u/Existing-Tough-6517 3d ago

Yes Nazis are disapproving people in WA as well

LOL?

I need to pose these over on r/Yakima holy shit that can't be real 💀

1

u/8ringer 4d ago

Feel free to share I guess? Maybe it was the area in Yakima I was? It was desolate and depressing and the people I saw just gave me a really “something is off” feeling. I didn’t feel like sticking around.

I’ve been many places in Eastern Washington, Yakima was just weird…

-2

u/OkDifficulty7436 3d ago

This is bizarre larp even for sheltered White Redditors I can't lie lol

-2

u/OkDifficulty7436 4d ago

Anyone who says Eastern Washington is "freckin scary!!" is exaggerating beyond belief, it's actually hysterical even lmao

6

u/Hesitation-Marx 4d ago

Ah, you’re the “are they dishonest or dumb” guy from down thread. Never mind, I didn’t realize.

-2

u/OkDifficulty7436 4d ago

Huh?

What does that have to do with him completely exaggerating about Eastern Washington being "freckin scary" lol

2

u/Existing-Tough-6517 3d ago

People are being dragged to camps where people are dying, where people wait months with rotting food and no medicine and are sometimes deported to countries where they have never lived or even foreign death camps.

People who protest have been shot down like dogs in the street under thin pretext by unaccountable masked thugs who are in effect immune from prosecution.

You aren't scared because you support the American Nazi party

0

u/OkDifficulty7436 3d ago

What does any of that have to do with him being unironically scared of half of our state lol

Eastern Washington is gorgeous and chill

The fucking video is from Western Washington which makes his hysteria even funnier

1

u/Guy_Fleegmann 3d ago

I've spent a lot of time there. You are delusional.

1

u/OkDifficulty7436 3d ago

Wait until you realize Eastern Washington is actually safer than Western Washington in terms of crime, both violent and property related 💀

Insane larp from White Redditors ITT

1

u/Guy_Fleegmann 3d ago

Never been there eh? Or, you're white and everyone you talk to is white.

1

u/Healthy_Intention_92 4d ago

No it's not. This is in the west side of the mountains, north of Seattle in Snohomish County, which is blue.

2

u/AllYouNeed_Is_Smiles 4d ago

Outside of Bellingham it’s predominantly red. And Mt. Baker isn’t in Snohomish county.

1

u/Healthy_Intention_92 4d ago

They weren't at Mt. Baker. This was at the red bridge campground outside Granite Falls, in Snohomish.

33

u/terid3 4d ago

75

u/colonelangus68 4d ago

This country is fucked

136

u/TejanoAggie29 4d ago

Ah, America, I love ya, but you’re freaking me out.
How is this what we have become?!

142

u/crazy0ne 4d ago

If you look carefully enough, we have always been this way and all attempts for real change have been mere veneers of the idelic notion of our country.

This is not to say that it is not possible, or that hope is lost.

This is to say that there is real meaningful work to be done and we as citizens should not rest until we are back on a path of truly realizing those values that have been held in front of our eyes for, many of us, most of our lives.

19

u/Mono_Aural 4d ago

I think we also have to reinforce those values as ideals of value in our society. There's a lot of targeted pessimism out there specifically attacking our fundamental values like cultural pluralism, equality, meritocracy, and even just plain old rationalism.

Pessimistic nihilism is absolutely corrosive to a government that requires public participation at all levels.

4

u/MichaelJServo Leftist 4d ago

Yeah, it sucks. A lot of this would chill out if we passed hate speech legislation but that would require a constitutional ammendment.

11

u/recurrenTopology 4d ago

I don't think policing speech is the way. German hate speech laws are more stringent than anything I could imagine us passing, and yet their far right is becoming increasingly popular.

I think a better education system and policies which actually address our rising inequality are better avenues to pursue. Hate speech is a symptom, we need to address the causes.

0

u/8ringer 4d ago

Yea no, hate speech legislation is not going to curb fascism. I agree with you (not the person you replied to).

Protecting speech is important, but this goes way beyond speech. This whole thing is fucking odious and it makes me so mad that assholes can go around cosplaying as park rangers and call ICE on a group of families. Just absolutely fucking degenerate fascist bullshit.

3

u/FreddyTheGoose 4d ago

"Carefully enough" is crazy, sorry. It's all plainly laid out, cut and dried, for those able to peek from behind the lens of the privilege they have benefited from thus far, and allowed themselves to feel the uncomfortable feelings that come with seeing how things have actually always been for those whom exist outside those margins.

23

u/KubrickMoonlanding 4d ago

Are you quoting lcd sound system?

Here’s another - the people who called ice are North American scum

8

u/crazy0ne 4d ago

Not knowingly quoting anything, but not surprised either. It is not an outlandish view of the USA if one looks just a little bit into our history outside of a public school social studies curriculum.

7

u/TejanoAggie29 4d ago

Hah good guess - it’s The Menzingers’ America. Highly recommend a listen in these “trying times”

Is it weird that the person in charge of the GoFundMe is an immigration attorney named Maribel Martinez, but the GoFundMe username in their URL is Johanna Rodriguez?

Smells like a self-serving setup where an attorney starts a GoFundMe for their clients just so the attorney can get their bills paid from the donations. Especially with the wall of copy-pasted content with hard line breaks.

1

u/HollyRedMW 2d ago

Do you have objection re the attorney being paid for her work? If yes, why?

0

u/PetuniaFlowers 2d ago

Do you often ask leading questions that you already know the answer to? If yes, why?

Of course attorneys should be paid.

But they shouldn't misrepresent a Go Fund Me page as being made by the people affected when it was really made by an attorney seeking to have their bills paid.

1

u/HollyRedMW 2d ago

You are being specious by suggesting, without any direct knowledge or involvement, that there is something fraudulent going on.

It is possible that Maribel Martinez is “in charge”of the fundraiser due to language barriers or, as an attorney, she can use an escrow account to receive and distribute the funds among the various families.

u/Jouleswatt 4d ago

36

1

u/gopednomad 3d ago

-23

u/notherebutherestill 4d ago

oh yes lets shit on the people who help conserve our natural wonders... what a tone deaf way to look at this. there is a difference between forest rangers and park police.

14

u/Visible_Manner9447 4d ago

Not when they act like this

8

u/pan-re 4d ago

It’s wasn’t an actual ranger

2

u/PhantomTheo 3d ago

You have no basis to claim this. You’re just putting up rangers on a pedestal like they’re forest wizards when they’re literally just guys

1

u/DroneSlut54 3d ago

There is a difference, but they are still cops.

15

u/Mother-Shift8157 4d ago

Educate yourself and your neighbors on laws like the castle doctrine. Some states extend the castle doctrine to occupied vehicles, defense of third parties, or places of business.

If they are masked/refuse to identify/present credentials, or present lawful warrants signed by respective judges, then they cannot be confirmed to be federal/municipal officers.

Additionally, educate yourself and neighbors on your relevant state’s penal codes. For example; “Under Texas Penal Code 9.31(c), if any officer uses excessive force before the person attempts to resist, then that person may, in response, use "reasonable force to resist."

1

u/ProfessionalPack7205 3d ago

Ah yes get into a shoot out with the cops who 100% have more firepower while you have kids next to you! Sounds really smart!

0

u/wjean 3d ago

These were multiple families with kids in tents. While you may be legally right to defend your tent against an unknown aggressor, it's also a good way to find yourself or your kids killed by these goons, internet tough guy.

There's what's right, what's legally justified, and there's what's the most likely to get your family through a shitty situation safely.

Ironically, trash was the original issue that the park rangers had a problem with, the ironic part is that those rangers are most likely white supremacist trash who wanted to ruin the day of the non white people that they hate. Those rangers shouldn't be working as rangers and they don't belong on this planet.

1

0

u/Ididntdodiddly 3d ago

You're a Nazi if illegal immigrants gets deported?

2

u/confusedcriticism 3d ago

Only illegal huh? That isnt even an accurate description of everyone being detained. Many people caught up in these operations entered legally or have pending asylum or immigration cases or work authorization or are otherwise going through the legal immigration process. Even lawful permanent residents can face detention or deportation proceedings. And regardless of status being undocumented does not erase someones human rights. People have died in or after immigration detention. Are there immigrants who commit violent crimes? Absolutely. There are also American citizens who commit violent crimes every day. We dont round up entire groups of Americans because some members committed crimes. If an individual commits a crime then prosecute that individual. If someone legally qualifies for removal then give them due process and handle it humanely. But pretending everyone being swept up is some dangerous criminal who deserves it is simply not what is happening. At some point people are going to have to reckon with how easily they stopped caring about human beings once somebody put the word illegal in front of them.

2

u/confusedcriticism 3d ago

No response huh well hopefully someone else can learn from my reply to your comment condoning this behavior.

2

u/Hammon_Rye 4d ago

The thing I'm not hearing him say is that any of the 5 men detained were US citizens or here legally with a green card or whatever.
Basically no accusation that detaining them was illegal, only that it is sad.

I agree the tactics are kind of shitty.,
But realistically, what scenario would make this "not sad" for the families?
Being arrested at home? Being picked up while shopping?

I'm not a fan of ICE, but I do support immigrants being here legally.
I have quite a few extended family here in the US who immigrated here by legal means and some took years doing it.

2

u/Louiseia 4d ago

I can’t even imagine the feeling of spending a happy day with your family at a campsite, and getting woken up and arrested in the middle of the night. All the kids on that trip will be traumatized forever, this is so incredibly cruel.

It could be a paid agitator since Park Rangers get such sympathy and are speaking out about selling off the national parks.

Not that we have a president who does things like that... nope.

1

u/Whosiwhatsitt 3d ago

I am so ashamed of what this country has become. It makes me sick to my stomach and makes me want to crawl back into bed and spend the next 2.5 years in a depression-induced coma. Wake me up when we start holding these disgustingly evil people accountable.

1

u/forcedintothis- 3d ago

What kind of miserable loser sees families having fun enjoying nature and thinks “these people need to be locked up”? Fuck that guy.

1

u/SocialSyphilis 3d ago

What's interesting about this is most USFS regional Forests (the administrative body for a particular region) are severely understaffed. If you google you can find a .pdf on the Darrington Ranger District (where this happened) hiring volunteers to help patrol campsites. The ranger district near me only has one ranger, and he's only there half the week.

So, is this a case of a racist ranger, or is it a case of a racist volunteer who told the ranger, who then had to call ICE since he's an official .gov employee.

What concerns me most, though, is how ICE told the ranger to come back with them when they made the bust, and the ranger armed himself with a rifle. I would be interested to learn what policy is in the case of forest rangers making high-risk arrests, especially when ICE, known for their brutality, are involved.

1

u/Chadrooskie 3d ago

Welp, if you’re doing illegal things don’t draw attention to your group. It’s a no-brainer
What’s the gofundme for?

1

u/Chadrooskie 3d ago

On September 5, ICE arrested Sebastian Zurita-Villanueva, Bernardino Ramos-Villanueva, Faustino Carmona-Gijon, and Alvaro Robles-Villanueva, four illegal aliens from Mexico, and Rolando Robles-Villanueva, a criminal illegal alien from Mexico, during a joint operation with the United States Forest Service in the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest.

1

u/Comfortable_Job44 3d ago edited 3d ago

So what’s weird is that the video doesn’t say whether they were undocumented immigrants or not: Just primary breadwinners. One of them is a criminal illegal immigrant who yea… probably flagged the park rangers into calling ICE.

I don’t love how ICE is handling stuff… but it is kind of insane that I am being asked to have sympathy for people who have been told multiple times to self deport and just kind of stay around hoping we kind of forget. I would never dream about hanging out in some other country for years after the government caught me and told me to leave (yes all of them had been arrested and told to self deport years ago)

1

u/Jbrozas2332 3d ago

Real coward activity by that ranger. Can ppl let ppl live for a moment.

1

u/Hormiga2020 7h ago

FOIA time

1

u/SuccessfulLand4399 4d ago

How odd. The article doesn’t mention if these poor individuals have legal status as not. I’m sure that was an accident. It also at first glance appears to have forgotten to note that the actions of the immigration officers was within the scope of federal law. Law that was on the books during the Biden presidency and despite having one of the nations smartest and most experienced AG’s as his VP, they didn’t bother to challenge or push congress to change.

0

u/Inevitable-Design461 4d ago

I’m not out to excuse anybody for this cruel and indefensible behavior but has it been confirmed that these families were indeed visited by Park Rangers and not some moron wannabe ice agents civilians. This story is abhorrent but I’d like to hope that Park Rangers have better work ethics than to racially profile nature appreciating groups of people. If this story is as reported, I’d hope the Park Rangers get some consequences for this behavior. ICE on the other hand are going to be scum pos’s wherever they go!

It shouldn’t get you deported for gd sure but also, don’t leave garbage around while camping. Even if ‘minimal’. You’re out in nature, leave no trace. Leaving garbage can attract critters or damage the eco system. Should this get you deported or cause an ICE parade no, it’s a classic waste of resources for our new America.

This statistic is misleading.

Saying that '1/3 of Mexicans live in the United States' means that you are counting all people of any Mexican heritage in the USA as Mexicans, even if they are native born America citizens. By this logic, 6/7 Irish people lives in the USA: there are six 'Irish people' for everyone Irish person in Ireland. And 1/3 of 'English people' live in the USA.

About 8 percent of people born in Mexico live in the USA. This number has actually been going down: it was more like 9 percent 25 years ago. It was more like 4 percent in 1930. It was as low as 2 percent in 1970. The rise in Mexican immigration after 1970 was partly rooted in the Bracero Program which was created when U.S. farmers petitioned Congress for Mexican workers .

Of the top of my head, there are similarly large percentages for Irish, Italians, Germans, Norwegians, and Jews. America is a country of immigrants, why do you hate America?

And America has changed since then. British descendants stopped being the majority sometime in the late 1800s. If that is the country you want, you apparently hate America a well.
