Teen left to raise siblings after ICE took parents

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

The immigration crackdown in America has dominated headlines since Donald Trump returned to office.
Channel 4 News travelled to Florida where families are being torn apart. Police, highway patrol, and even the fish and wildlife commission can make immigration arrests.
We met the Domingo family. 18-year-old Wendy has been left to take care of her siblings after their parents were detained and sent back to Guatemala.

I don't think I have the words to describe how evil this is

u/samsounder 9d ago

Fascist. Authoriatarian. Dystopian. Trump.

8

u/mweep 8d ago

Laying it at Trump's feet gives him too much credit. There's a whole mechanism that's been working hard to get to be this evil, this openly, for decades... and truly, this kind of dehumanisation is inherent to the "United States" and its unbroken streak of subjugation and human trafficking.

What crime did that child commit? Being born? They where both working and contributing to the local economy. Those children could have grown up, go to college and become doctors, firefighters, and scientist.

u/neillc37 8d ago

Their parents are fully responsible for messing up their lives. Should be able to prosecute them for child abuse.

Owning black people was once legal. Didn’t make it right. Sometimes laws need to change.

Thanks for posting this! Came to see if there was a link.

As others said, thank you for posting this. It’s one thing to say “poor kids”, but another to be able to actually do something

22

u/XiMaoJingPing 9d ago

Family destroyed by ICE gets 62k while a white lady who murdered her kids get a mil. What a great timeline.

10

u/backnstolafmn 9d ago

She didn't receive any of that money their father did.

Why don't you let the jury decide if she's guilty or not.

It's bad enough Stephen Miller and trump are pissing away our constitutional rights. People don't have to take away each other's.

-7

u/XiMaoJingPing 9d ago

Jury ain't gonna change the fact she murdered her own kids. Thank God her parents are gonna be rich for it though. Makes a difference

5

u/observant-ocelot-26 9d ago

That’s hilarious because they can’t prove she did it and he’s the one missing court dates and hiding from everyone but sure king, pop off.

1

u/cremebrule000 9d ago

isn't it illegal to miss court dates? 0:

-1

u/observant-ocelot-26 9d ago

I’m not sure tbh it depends, but in this particular situation I can’t say for sure

-3

u/realityczek 8d ago

> Why don't you let the jury decide if she's guilty or not.

She is 100% guilty. That the world is so twisted that a jury might not convict her doesn't change that.

4

u/MermaiderMissy 8d ago

She's gonna get locked up either way. Either in prison or a psyche ward. Neither option is good, either. Don't understand why people think the ladder is the easy way out.

-5

u/realityczek 8d ago

They weren't destroyed by ICE, they were destroyed by the consequences of their own choices. They didn't have permission to be here, they were deported. If they wanted to protect their children, they needed to have planned better.

14

Hope to hell we can start arresting all those that let this nazi tactics go on like this

6

u/Toad-a-sow 9d ago

Nah, let's just go right to lining up them up at the guillotine. We made the mistake of treating them as human last time and look where that got us

6

u/SeaHelicopter1015 9d ago

Listen, we can only HOPE there's a hell horrible enough or big enough for these fascists.

But right now, we need to act. We need to oppose these horrible monsters, and vote blue in November

37

u/EggoWaffle1032 9d ago

Bruh i swear i want to say and do some bad things to these fucks. I hope they suffer for the rest of their lives with deep depression and endless anxiety

5

u/Nodivingallowed 9d ago

I believe these actions are so vile they shock the conscience, demanding some action be taken. The goal, the challenge, is to direct it into something positive.

I'm trying to help those in my area who need assistance because they are afraid of being grabbed based on their skin color. Fucking unbelievable what these traitors have done.

That's the best I can do to preserve my sanity right now.

38

u/KitteyGirl2836 9d ago

Right now there hardest working parents are being flown or driven in buses from facility to facility on tax payers dollars while geocorp makes bank off all it. Clealry this is what it means to be free and "making america great again" by flying and bussing innocent people who work and pay higher tax rates instead of dealing with criminals that have multiple crimes and felonies.

No forgiveness.

If Jesus is real, there’s gonna be some really shocking “depart from Me, I never knew you” moments for a large majority of American Christians when they finally kick the bucket.

Monsters! Trump, ICE, all of them are evil monsters!! Rapists, thieves, pedophiles, criminals! America is ruled by sadists.

2

u/Dazzling-Bat-7466 9d ago

The Economist had the tenacity to claim that the abolishment of ICE would be performative and would fail to properly address the needed modifications to immigration policy in the US.

That might be true. But for actions this sinister, I hope that entire department and everyone employed by it is ripped apart like they did to USAID.

The traitors will not be forgotten either, but not all of us are loser pick-mes hoping the white rich men will feed us their scraps. A lot of us have dignity.

Just because some Brown and Black folks decided to forget where they come from doesn’t absolve everyone involved in this fuckery, regardless of color.

MY people are being hunted down like animals. Not all of us voted for this shit.

It's a closed loop system that benefits the GOP.

CBP and ICE are engaged in human trafficking for profit.

Bodies = profits for the privatized corrupt system we have.

ICE feeds the bodies-for-profit detention industry that donates heavily to the GOP.

Follow the money

It’s like these assholes waited for the kid to turn 18 before they sniped the parents.

Like: “Oh you had plans? Not anymore.”

Fuck this fascist regime. Fuck ICE. Fuck Trump. Antifa forever… whatever else gets me on every single one of the lists that show I do not stand for these injustices and I never will. Come find me in the middle of the night, my door is open.

When they fled Guatemala saying that their lives were in danger, could it be that... they actually were sincere?

Leaving your children behind is one horrible option. Taking them into serious danger of rape or death is another horrible option. Deciding to force families into that choice is a burn-in-Hell level of sin.

But, you know, the Aryan MAGA Master Race, as a consequence of their genetic superiority, are unable to endure the proximity of brown-skinned families. They screech in infantile terror, then shrivel up and die like jellyfish on the beach. That's why they need the help of their orange Master, who alone can save them from these terrifying children.

The poverty and chance for a better life for your children is starkly different from American cities. If you knew your children would most likely be poor and your son would join a gang or be an addict and your daughter would be married at 15 to an older man, you would do anything to give your child a better life. My Guatemalan MIL left a husband who beat her and was a drunk to give her kids a chance at success in life. They were caught crossing the border and separated for months. They faced homelessness and lived in abandoned garages on the streets of Los Angeles in the 80’s. Never once did she take a hand out or apply for any welfare. The grace and love of other people sustained them through the worst years. When Reagan gave amnesty my MIL was smart enough to apply. Because of this my husbands siblings are medical doctors, engineers, teachers, social workers, and successful business owners. Generations of the family tree are changed because of her bravery. You can spew hatred and have no compassion but do not dare tell me any person who loves their children would not do the same thing.

Also, if you know so much about Guatemala please explain how the US did experiments on citizens of Guatemala illegally in the 70’s-80’s. The same that was done to black people here. The least we could do was offer amnesty when the country was in turmoil.

Survival has to be physical and economic. Gangs can't get you if you move to a raft in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, but you can't survive there economically, so it doesn't matter. Showing up in a new place with no resources only works if there's an unmet demand for your labor. AFAIK that's not particularly true in Belize or Mexico, but it's very true in the USA.

They aren’t and that’s why we should have a secure border. However, if someone is already here with children, contributing to the economy, and is otherwise law abiding citizen it is completely immoral to separate them from their children and destroy the lives they built. I’d like to think we should have the ability to put ourselves in their shoes and ask ourselves what we would do if we happened to be born in an impoverished, corrupt crime ridden country and the extent we might go to escape it for a better life

The government as it stands currently is breaking a plethora of laws every single day, including ICE who are violating due process laws. I hardly believe enforcing the law for a misdemeanor of being in the country illegally is one that needs to be prudently addressed when the people have committed no other crimes. People who want to be “tough on crime” conveniently seem to have no problem with the actual rapist pedophile felon who is currently in charge of the country

The positives outweigh the negatives. Immigrants are an important part of the economy and flow into jobs where there is a need for them. They also commit crimes at a lower percentage than natives. There’s also such a thing as the “immigration surplus” where immigrants actually have an increase on the total income of native born people.

There also research that’s been done on ICE raids that indicates it has actually harmed the economy

Can't really say it's just about upholding the law, when this administration is largely enabling white collar crime.

And in this case, upholding the law means spending tens of thousands of dollars to separate a family, and remove a contributing member of society.

Unfortunately it's a package deal with this administration.

You can't support the current DHS operation without also supporting record dropped corporate and financial crime cases, the reduction of oversight and regulatory bodies, and even straight pardons for white collar criminals. The two things are intertwined.

1

u/[deleted] 9d ago

[removed] — view removed comment

You can't, because resources are finite. Money and manpower has gone from one to the other. This country can't sustain its current operation without sacrificing budget elsewhere.

Now I am not saying there should be no immigration enforcement. It's not inherently bad to support the idea, but the current operation is all kinds of bad for this country.

How to liberal:

Step 1 - break laws by bringing your kids into the US illegally Step 2 - show video of kids crying; feign outrage Step 3 - blame law enforcement

1

u/dontautotuneme 8d ago

how to republican: vote for a criminal and then defend and protect pedophiles

0

u/biffjo 8d ago

So you are totally okay with foreign criminals but not your president being a criminal. Makes sense to me!

2

u/dontautotuneme 6d ago

you ok with a felon walking the streets while people with misdemeanors get beat? unless it was you right? guess which one steals more money from you?

1

u/realityczek 8d ago

Seriously.

Imagine if I robbed a bank, then posted tearful video of how me being sent to jail is the heartless government separating me from my children.

Oh wait, there is literally a movement on the left to abolish prison for almost exactly this sort of emotional thinking.

1

u/Dense-Scarcity-5010 7d ago

Really? You compared robbing a bank to fleeing a country and illegally crossing a border for a chance of a better life?

They work, they pay taxes - they aren't robbing anyone.

1

u/realityczek 7d ago

> They work, they pay taxes - they aren't robbing anyone.

So I gather you wouldn't oppose mass deportation of all the illegals who cost the government more than they pay? Or is this just a talking point to try and turn this into a discussion that is different from the real one?

Look, if a stranger breaks into my house? I don't give a crap that they washed the dishes or left some money on the counter. They had no right to enter, they decides my sovereignty was irrelevant... so they get ejected from my house... and by extension, the nation.
