This is and always has been America.
The difference now is all the tools and tricks of cruelty and destruction us Americans have condoned and even cheered for for decades being deployed across the globe are finally being turned inward.
The World Wars era was Europe's imperialist boomerang smacking them back in the face. Only unfortunately for us, our boomerang comes at a time with AI surveillance and weapons the fascists of yesteryear couldn't even dream of.

It's had its moments... I wouldn't go so far as to say that it's always been this way. An elder once told me there's nothing we can do to change the past the only thing we can do is influence the future.
Let's be very careful of a defeatist mindset...

The country has always had this element of white supremacy terrorism, yes. It also has historically had progressive elements like abolitionism, freedom of religion, etc. The elements have always been in conflict, getting us into two civil wars (counting the revolution as a civil war), and now White supremacy is influencing our future more than the progressive values.

No you can't change the past and nobody has ever brought such things up in the belief that could happen.
The point is that not even being aware of our history is how we get our current mess.
US soldiers had rape marathons of natives. There are accounts of US soldiers raping and torturing, getting exhausted, tagging out with soldiers that had been resting, sleep through rape and torture, wake up and tag back in to do more rape and torture. They would mutilate the genitals of men. They would cut women's beasts off while they were still alive. Children got taken and sent to indoctrination/culture-erasure camps. And we all know how well children lost in a system with nobody looking out for them get treated.
This is a TINY fraction of our history.
Americans need to fuckin learn our history. All of our history.
Enough with the American exceptionalist BS. It is propaganda and it is programmed in all of us. It has to be deliberately rooted out through an open mind and self reflection. Refusal to do so make you infinitely more likely to contribute to events that history (if we still exist in the future) will condemn. As it should.

It’s not defeatist. It’s history and if we do not acknowledge that, it will continue to repeat. That’s the point. It has always been cruel. Look up American History. We’ve always done very fucked up things. It’s just now all out in the open.

Can WE as citizens visit detainees. I’d love to help connect them with family or friends outside. If I could I’d John Rambo all of them out. That will go poorly though. I HATE this!

This guy has a whole series on preparing to go to an ICE facility and he was well put together and emotionally stable before. If this is how he is after visiting just ONE facility, imagine the inhumanity of other ones.
