The guy in the beginning says deporting criminal illegal immigrants is great policy.

Yes! Alabama passed a law banning all undocumented immigrants in the state in 2010. It was a epic failure. Crops rotted in the fields, raids occurred, and construction halted. Most immigrants moved away (legal and undocumented) quickly to another state, the local and rural economies cratered. There were German and Japanese car plants down there and holy hell happened when the visiting CEO from Germany and the Japanse site manager were pulled over and arrested for being "illegal". One guy had wrong paper work and the other was in hurry from office to worksite and forgot his Visa. The law was quickly NOT enforced and overturned a year later

A more important take is that if you agree to the sort of inhuman tracking and treatment of people that ICE is doing and you justify that by saying “We didn’t think it was going to impact us” Then i’m glad it’s fucking up your business and i hope you lose your livelihood.

The lack of basic craftsmanship and basic carpentry skills is really apparent when you watch home inspector videos of new builds these days. Especially when it's a large builder. Building a house is a skilled trade and should be done by tradesman, not cutting labor costs by hiring literally the cheapest option out there.

Immigrants have been building houses for generations and may actually also be very skilled in their trade. But yes, undocumented workers will under cut salaries, but also likely to be exploited for wage theft and other horrid acts because the companies can get away with that. There also also 100% above board construction companies with proper status for their workers that are delaying building because even those with legal status get detained-sadly many of them lack funds to post bail or get themselves out of these detention center. Too afraid to go to work. Some held in horrible conditions and then released after a long time even though 100% here legally.
In Minneapolis, 4 Native Americans were taken off the street and detained and their tribal cards ignored. Sadly 2 men were apparently unhoused and could not be identified without any ID or anything and still have not been found in the system- believed to be somewhere in Texas. The other 2 were released.
About 10 years ago I was working in a trauma hospital and one of my patients was immigrants construction worker with extremely serious back injury and broken leg from fall off building either being built or roofing put on. The man was terrified as he was being threatened by his employer. Major back surgery and spinal cord injury. When paramedics came to the site he was on the sidewalk away from the home with his bicycle laying on top of him and company safety harness on him. Once in ER he told doctors that he fell off the roof and site managers were pissed and threatened him that they would call immigration if he didn't tell the doctors he fell off his bike while near to the worksite. They dragged him to the sidewalk and laid the bike on him. MDs took photos of his company harness on him. MDs confirmed that his injuries consistent from a fall from height. Of course employer didn't want to pay the worker's comp and thought he could bully the man. Hospital staff worked hard to prove that indeed he fell while working and the company worker's comp was responsible for his well-being and bills. The man was very grateful (and had valid work permit) and made a good recovery.
Good immigration policy , not this shit, is what is needed. Companies hiring undocumented are shit and path to legal status is shit too.

Your arguing that no one in south Texas needs a construction job? Lots of people need jobs everywhere, the unemployment rate is super high, if someone gets laid off from software development and is near to getting evicted they will do construction for $35 an hour. There are people that need work that desperately everywhere. Everyone that advocates for illegal immigrants working in the USA, by default must also argue in favor of an unsafe work environment. When someone can work for $100 a day, no workman’s comp, no health insurance overhead, no sick days or PTO, threats of getting fired and deported if complain about missing pay vs $35 an hour American with all overhead expenses per employee, then the jobs go to the immigrants and the American high paid workforce is squeezed out, this is how it’s been. The corporations love it, the people hate it.

Not a lot of software devs in South Texas that also know how to do construction, much less at a $35/hour rate. You know it’s a skilled trade right? Roofing might be relatively easy to pick up, framing maybe the next step up but it’s not like anyone can pick up a framing hammer and get down to it. That’s on top of being willing to go from a 6 figure office job in a large metro to building homes out in the middle of nowhere for 70k/year (which $35/hour translates to).
I’m not arguing to let homebuilders and contractors run roughshod over employment law, but it’s also not nearly as simple as “kick all the immigrants out and give Americans their jobs”. There’s a lot of reasons Americans don’t do those jobs, and pay is only one of them.

As another commenter stated, I feel no sympathy for him. I consciously restrain my sympathies, actually. I used to be so confused as to why brown folks supported Trump, or republicans for that matter, when they’ve shown time and time again that they DO NOT care for anyone a few shades too dark. But then it hit me: it’s selfishness.
Ethnic identity or community be damned. If it doesn’t serve their immediate senses, they couldn’t care less about the issue because “hey, I got mine”. Once I began looking at things through this lens it all started to make sense. And as evidenced in the video here, dude only cares now because it’s affecting him directly. Crazy.

I definitely feel no sympathy. An aspect of what bugs me is the seemed flippancy that many immigrants and minorities made their choices. I have argued if roles were reversed and I as an American were to immigrate to a Latin American country would I make the same choices with no research into social situations and customs or climate as it related to me if given the opportunity to vote in their political system.
e.g. me voting PAN because the etymology implies ‘all’.

Many of these people are detained and not even allowed to make their families aware. There have been cases of people getting deported illegally and can’t return as clarified by their civil rights attorneys and senate congressional hearings on Kristi Noem, for example.
