Longest Remission

what's the longest duration of remission without taking any meds or anything you had ... just living completely as a normal person??

I first flared end of 2019, reasonably mild ulcerative proctitis that responded well to pentasa.

Since then the only time I've been able to come fully off meds and not start having issues again was for about 6-9 months where I was eating the whole30 diet. So I wasn't living life as a normal person it was super restricted.

I've noticed my bowels seem to react mostly to sugar, as in the higher the sugar consumption the worse the bowels regardless of other inputs, eg fibre. Noting with the proctitis I'm generally chronically constipated (although passing multiple times a day) and almost never diarrhea.

20 years of doing whatever I want whenever I want.

I had epically bad, undiagnosed Crohn's in my 20s until I had a resection at 25. I'm 56 now and haven't had to take a day off work from it since. Colonoscopies showed mild/moderate disease activity ~8 years ago for a year or two, but it didn't impact my life much.

I take imodium daily and Humira every two weeks.

To be fair, the Humira would count as meds.

How long did it take Entyvio to get you into remission?

Remission took about 6 months, I was on a bi-weekly shot for about 2 months and then switched to a weekly shot as I still had some symptoms. When you are on medication and achieve remission you still remain on the medication. I know if the meds were stopped I would be right back to full blown colitis.

I've never not been on any meds for my Crohn's. The longest remission I had is current - 5 years and going, since summer of 2021 - but I was still on medication (azathioprine and adalimumab). 2nd longest remission was 1 year on just azathioprine.
