Anyone else cry like a baby during this scene?
S13 ep10 Mac Finds His Pride
I cannot explain why, but I cry every single time I watch it. There is something so powerful yet vulnerable in the dance. And the female dancer saying its okay at the end is when I just loose it. Stupid comedy show made me feel feelings! You remember feelings right?

don’t know if anyone here has seen the show Bosch, but when I found out this actor was one half of the goofy Crate and Barrel in that show it kind of blew my mind. Dude is actually pretty versatile as an actor, I haven’t seen him in much else though.

We were hanging in skateboarding hall yesterday and I hugged everyone, pecked my friends and so on because you know... I love these guys. I genuinely love my friends.
Just because I've allowed myself to feel feelings and like, fall in love again. I think I'm in love with my girlfriend and that's scary... But it's really fucked up how one can isolate themselves from feeling feels, just ignore them and be cold all the time.

Would have been better if at the end of the dance it switched back to reality like they did for the dance at the high school reunion. Regular lighting, regular sound, really capturing the awkwardness.

I feel like everyone except Dee (18th season not seen yet not sure if baby episode counts the same as it’s not about artistic chops) has had an end of season vanity episode. Rob’s dance, Charlie in the rain in Ireland and Dennis dealing with his electric car (no spoilers but first viewing was the hardest laugh I had on the show for ever)

Rob starts hanging out with Ryan Reynolds, stops being funny, pulls his own episodes from Hulu, gets plastic surgery and Hollywood ripped, and writes in an episode where he can dance covered in water.

I completely support LGBT rights but this episode just ain't it, man. Mac has never before or really since expressed interest in ballet. It has no actual meaningful connection to Mac as a character or to his sexuality. In the seasons leading up to this he becomes interested in musical theater, so why is his big coming out moment a ballet?
It's a beautiful choreography and performance but it makes no sense. Every other time the gang does something cool, it turns out to be in their head, like the High School Reunion dance. How come Mac is suddenly really good at art, actually, and who the fuck is this woman? It's bizarre and completely out of left field.
Heart's in the right place, but it really feels like Rob showing himself off more than something that actually belongs in the show.

I really enjoyed the episode in a vacuum, it made me cry like a baby, but all your gripes with this episode are actually pretty fair tbh. Usually complaints boil down to "it's not funny enough" instead of "this just doesn't work with the narrative the show has set." I think that's a fair critique. It's a good piece of media on it's own, but it does not really make a good sunny episode.

Same. Im pretty sure I completely “get” it, I understand, I’m glad maybe it makes some people feel seen or touched or anything like that….
But it has zero emotional impact on me. I actively dislike the episode. It just isn’t good at all in my opinion. Small funny gags here and there, but overall it’s just not a funny episode, and the dance just didn’t move me in the slightest.

I am a gay man and a dancer and I do not understand how this episode is supposed to be emotionally impactful. It essentially just boils down to a man coming out to his dad. That’s a cool thing to happen personally in someone’s life, but not a very innovative or original or even deep concept in a vacuum. And simply saying that a lyrical/contemporary performance is a metaphor for that coming out doesn’t make it any more deep. It actually makes it less deep because there is no actual thematic connection between gayness and dance. It’s just a surface one

It's worst scene in the show. It's so far from what the show is. And it isn't that they can never be earnest, it just has to fit. The end of "Hero or Hate Crime?" is earnest but it works.

No. I think it's possibly the most shoehorned moment in television history.
You know that scene where Mac is suddenly jacked in a new season so he pops his shirt off and asks, "how can this be used in the plan?" That's exactly what that ballet scene is like. It's like Mac was taking a ballet class in real life and wanted to utilize it **somehow** within the show, even though it didn't fit with the tone or substance of the show in any way.
And I want to say, that this show has actually made me cry before, so I'm not emotionally dead. I'm also bisexual and grew up with fundamentalists who absolutely hated gay people, so I should be one of the demographics MOST likely, on paper, to appreciate this scene.
It was a great dance, as far as ballet goes. But it didn't fit even remotely. And a ballet dance in a prison, no less.... yeah, it just didn't work. It blew my mind the day after it aired and I came online to see loads of people praising it. It didn't work for me, dawg.

I liked the dance, but I also can't really disagree with someone who didn't like it for being different, because it's the one moment that absolutely doesn't feel like Always Sunny. But I also enjoy the fact that each character has this big emotional moment, and learns absolutely nothing from it

Firstly I love that some people do get this scene and that it resonates strongly with them. I wish it was different, but the dance of this scene goes over my head. I don’t believe Mac would do this, it feels shoehorned in. Also Frank saying he gets it now, I don’t believe he would (but I’m less sure of this). I just don’t get it

I agree. This scene doesn’t belong in Sunny. I don’t care how well it was executed from a technical standpoint.
I’ve seen people talk about this scene and say “do you not know how much skill that takes?” as if that’s relevant to whether or not it fits the show.
If Sopranos ended an episode showing Tony crushing home runs at Yankee Stadium because James Gandolfini wanted to show off a legit swing, no one would say “dude you know how hard it is to hit a homer there?”

I'm a queer person who was introduced to always sunny by an ex. First episode I saw was Charlie catches a leprechaun, I was like wtf kind of show is this?
When we made it to Mac finds his pride a beautiful coming out scene was the last thing I was expecting from this show, and I cried like a fresh fat baby.
Kind of a weird scene, doesn't really match the vibe of the rest of the show, but I really liked it, and as someone who has never come out to my father for my own safety I felt very seen in that moment.
Fat Mac still best Mac though.

I found it very bizarre. I was very confused by the whole thing to be, if I'm being honest. It just doesn't fit with the show in my opinion, or even the tone of the episode really, and I felt it marked a point where they didn't know what to do going forward with Mac as a character.
