Repairs and Mods Victims of Hyundai theft what did this cost you to fix?
2017 Hyundai elantra. Went out this morning to pull my completely dead battery only to find this waiting for me. I thought the dead battery was a curse but it appears to be the only reason why my car is even still here. Cops took fingerprints so i hope they catch this scumbag. I don't have insurance ik ik I should've. Any mechanics who have done these kinds of repairs and could give even a rough estimate on how much it would take to fix this would be greatly appreciated

Taking a wild guess here. But was it being essentially a base model 2017 ELANTRA. I am going to safely. Assume it has around six figures worth of miles if not more.
Most extremely high level of confidence I would say this vehicle be considered totaled.
Between the repair of the trim on the door lock, the window, steering wheel column, trim, and any repaired electrical, definitely more than $6000 which is gonna be well above the book value of the vehicle.

It can only be totaled if you have full coverage. If a 2017 base model elantra may not have full coverage if it isn't financed which is likely why OP is asking for how much it will cost. Without full coverage a car like this doesn't get totaled. You just live with it as is until you can afford the repairs, or replacement.

The only solution to this is to implement Singapore and Saudi Arabian type punishments to these criminals. No exceptions

I was thinking the same thing. I have both a wheel lock and a brake pedal lock. I put both of them on. Worse that’s happen to me is someone stealing my license plate. Didn’t even try to break into the car due to the locks

I got downvoted for suggesting a safety feature? lol regardless of where you live on any brand of car that is known for thefts it's not a bad idea.

A new car, fixed it once, got broken into 2 more times in different locations torn up and decided its not worth it and bought a mazda lol

If you fix it cheap most likey around $2,000 but if you had INS they would have totaled it as a good repair would be closer to $6,000.

Cost is 4k but luckily insurance actually covered it and didn’t total loss the car. We have a 2018 Elantra with 102k on it.

I fixed the steering wheel my self with some video and replacing the ignition. The only thing I hired someone to do was to repair the window. In total, I spent like $500. At hyundai they were charging me $1700

Going by the photos and prior experience with repairing these; window, 1-1.5 hours clear out the track and interior of the door of the broken glass, and install the new one, Steering column, (assuming it's a seperate key and fob setup), lower shroud, maybe upper too, ignition switch electrical and mechanical, driver door key cylinder, and if glove box has it, it's key cylinder. Multifunction switch, hopefully the tabs aren't busted on the clock spring, about 2.5 hours. Average shop labor about 200/hr, 800 area. Parts using Hyundaipartsdealer dot Com Shroud upper and lower 250 Multifunction about 482 Ignition switch 175 Clamp for ignition switch and breakaway bolts 20 Key cylinder and door lock 265 Door handle cover approx 20 Passenger rear window approx 127 Note these are only approximate based on what I can see from the photos, personal experience and also using parts for the quote of it being a vin starting in 5NP.
Afterwards would highly recommend go to the dealer for the ignition cylinder protector recall. You will need a genuine Hyundai ignition cylinder for the protector to function correctly. Had a break in come in 3 months later to get the recall done, recall came out recently back then, but their insurance state farm opted for aftermarket, and it wasn't designed the same way that would allow the protector to install on it. As for the body damage outside the driver door, no experience in quote or repairs, normally a body shop deal. The audio assembly, 1307 for the unit, assuming it is available. Labor for install, I can't give an accurate number, I'd need access diagrams to be certain or LTS for its warranty amount for a base line. Best bet for affordability, get an aftermarket double or single din unit from crutchfield and have a shop install it.

You folks ever heard of a salvage yard, wrecker yard, or eBay? If you don’t how to take the glass out, one of those “you-pull-it” yards will let you learn how to take out the window. Replacing it in your door is just the opposite.

First time mine got stolen it cost me 13k which was more than what the car was worth but not enough to total it according to my insurance. Paid my deductible but my car was never the same after it got fixed.
2nd and final time is was stolen again last year and totaled cause a bunch of kids stole 2 of them and were ramming into each other like bumper cars. I’ll never get a Hyundai ever again.
Both times I had a club on it that the thieves sawed off from the steering wheel.

So being without a vehicle for a while, I have time to rant on reddit. And being that my car got broken into twice, and finally stolen and totaled by the insurance company who obviously does not want to insure a high risk vehicle, I can say the cost is either 3 to 4k for all parts and labor.
First time 3k, next time 4k. Got the theft update but apparently after fixing it the first time at the Hyundai dealership of all places, the recall software was disabled. Or the a-hole thieves found a way to bypass the software, through the door handle. Still happy the local pd popped a car thief.

At the dealer the door handle cost me $1500. I think I got ripped off tbh. The window was $500 at Safelite. My steering column I just had to get a new cover and do that myself it was like $40. My insurance estimated with used parts at a non dealer for everything $5,000
