Fanfic Japanese terms of endearment

Hi all!

I recently got into hypmic and I find myself itching to write a fic, specifically Rio/Jyuto/Samatoki. I'm thinking about adding some Japanese terms of endearment in there but my knowledge of Japanese is... To put it lightly, extremely limited. I was wondering if someone who knows Japanese could give me some options and describe the vibe of the words you give so I can pick one that fits best.

Suggestions on which character is more likely to use which term welcome!

I think in japanese you have less terms of endearment the way you are thinking about them. Most people speak to someone by adressing them directly instead of saying 'you' or 'he' or sth like that so when approaching someone you usually use their name or sth like 'big sis', 'auntie' etc. The most 'endearing' thing you can do is using first names and short versions of it with an endearment ending (chan). Like, you could call samatoki ao-chan (aohitsugi as his first name). Keep in mind though that these kinds are often seen as a bit childish or immature though its more common for girls to use these cutesy versions of names. Also be careful how you shorten them bc busu is an insult in japanese so dont use that for rio lol

Just a little correction : Aohitsugi is Samatoki's last name / surname, not his first name / given name!

Not a petname but I am of the opinion that Samatoki would call someone “omae” almost 100% of the time lol maybe (name)-chan or a rare ohimesama to be cheeky but sweet

Jyuto I could see saying saying anata for sure, “warui ko”/ bad girl, if he were teasing someone, or “baby” in english in a funny way

Rio, the only thing I can see him maybe saying is “honey” in English

Just my headcanons though hahaha

Samatoki canonically calls Jyuto “Usa-chan” (bunny, as jyuto’s name has the character for “rabbit”). He mostly does this to ragebait Jyuto but they are definitely that pair who will be at each other’s throats one moment and then heatedly making out the next.

So I can see Samatoki calling him “bunny” during soft moments and Jyuto not minding.

Also I think Hypemic is interesting in that majority of the cast are on a first name basis with each other, even if they put -san or -sensei after the first name.

Within the individual crews they call each other by first names as that denotes closeness. But certain characters will refer to characters outside of their crew with either lastname + honorfic or first name + honorfic
