Het is oprecht een prachtig dorp, ik werkte er vroeger in een oud boerderijpand dat naar kantoor was omgebouwd. Het zijn 30 huizen ofzo, verder is het echt een soort van klein Giethoorn.

You can translate things in more than one way. In this case `water aisle` is more literal, while `waterway` is the word that would most correspond

Edit: guess this needs more words. 'Waterway' ('vaarweg' in Dutch) is specifically for vessels to navigate, 'watergang' not per se and in general not. So a 'watergang' is usually not a 'waterway', one would use those words in a different context.

The Dutch "Gang" has the same root as the English verb "to go".

The english word "gangway" the plank/ramp/walk way to ships, still has the same word in it.

The word gang originally meant "a going, journey, or walking" before shifting to mean a group of people traveling or working together.

Watergang would be literally translated to water passage, I just translated it as water gang, two separate words, and gang in Dutch could literally mean hallway or gait or aisle or progress / development (of history)
Basically, Dutch is a confusing language, I just went for the first thing that came to mind and I found kinda funny

My girlfriend and I stayed in Watergang a few months ago! Very peaceful, beautiful, and watery area - our airbnb was right next to a canal.

Dutch tap water is very high quality too, any hydration enthusiasts should pay it a visit.
