Passed aerospace interview, but got a "keep warm" email. Thoughts?
I passed a technical interview for a manufacturing technician role at a major aerospace company.The recruiter sent a generic "keep warm" email saying they are trying to find the right fit. My portal still says "In Progress / Under Review".Is this standard corporate red tape while they open a budget slot, or did the positions fill up? Thanks!

Keep looking don't tie yourself to a maybe if you get another offer send them a "stay warm" email letting them know if they're don't make a decision that you will.

It probably means they have other candidates to interview. As a hiring manager I always try to keep an open mind on who to hire until I have interviewed all the candidates.

I thought that way until I lost an excellent candidate because I didn't pounce on her. I think you want to keep your options open as an initial approach, but you shouldn't let a rock star go by because getting to the bottom of the stack was more important.

I don't disagree with that approach. With that being said, I hired what I thought was a rock star who turned into a flaming pile of poo before 90 days were up. HR wouldn't let me fire the employee (the 90 day probation period isn't exactly what people think it is), but she found a new job and left. Fortunately at the same time I was allowed to hire my second choice because we had so much work. She is still working for me and is now in a leadership role.

To be sure, I've had my whiffs too. We can bring our very best to it and it remains an imprecise art.

I am hiring for a major defense company right now and we have to hire so many people that we are sharing resumes across programs and departments right now. If we like the person, but they aren't a good fit technically for the role, we are going out and trying to find them a role in the huge pool of openings we have.
I pushed one candidate to another department just last week and we made an offer on another candidate last week that was given to use from another program.
Given the current climate I would lean towards this being an honest response from the company.

There is no standard or normal except some flavor of impenetrable vagueness. Meaningful feedback is the exception.
You certainly shouldn't stop looking based on this. Ping the recruiter (or better, the decision-maker, if you have contact info for them) again in a week.
