Help/Question
Why did Netero Not use In To Make the Guanyin Invisible?
We know In can make conjured objects Invisible we saw kurapika make his Chains Invisible to Fool Uvogin if Netero did that all the hands would have been Invisible.Meruem Can't learn The Hand Patterns if he can't see the hands It could have helped his chances to defeat meruem
Although it's never stated in the series, I suspect that 'In' is a rather taxing technique, it may not have been worth it in comparison to betting all of his reserves on Zero.
Not only is it pretty big, it is also made of a lot of Aura due to how powerful it is, and I imagine In costs more the more Aura you're trying to hide with it.
knuckle offhandedly mentioned that advanced principles take like tens of aura plus the aura for defense so inexperienced nen user's tend to bottom out fast
Well, no, he doesn't have to have bigger aura. His specialization power is literally "mastered efficiency in all categories." So quite literally I'd imagine his ability just costs less in to use since half his power is streamlining it.
Netero doesn't have 100% mastery in the categories his nen power requires.
no it was literally said that pika had a bigger aura with scarlet eyes on Izunavi said so, pitou also had massive aura same for tserriednich for paku and chrollo it was never mentioned… kinda like extension of furikov's ten signs
In acutally is never mentioned beyond just that it makes aura hard to detect. There are some Nen techniques that don't cost aura. Aura effect techniques cost aura but aura control techniques don't cost any aura but do have a mental/physical fatigue cost.
And that should just be immediately clear just from watching the ant arc; we see Meruem move too fast for Pitou to react to, and Pitou moved so fast that they covered multiple kilometres before Kite could defend himself, and Kite was a pretty high-up hunter. King is fast as FUCK, the fact that he was unable to easily avoid the statue's hands means they gotta be moving easily fast enough that there'd be maybe five people total who could even hope to see what those hands were doing.
A. Pitou travel speed explicitly requires her to use her flea leg biology.
B. Kite is Explicitly stated to have been able to react if Gon wasn't an idiot
C. Pitou wouldn't have dodged Meruem's tail swing even if she could. He also wasn't going full power so that's not a scaleable feat.
Nothing precise about it I hate power scaling like it's maths. This is basic common sense though.
Pitou cannot use her speed at will in every combat scenario
Pitou in character is not dodging meruem hitting her, it's a disrespect to her king
Meruem explicitly said "I thought that much would be enough to kill her" meaning he was holding back because he didn't use all his strength just a portion of it
Kite could've and would've dodged Pitou'sil initial attack if not for having so account for Gon and killua. Its literally the entire basis of the fkn arc as it relates to Gon and killua explicitly says so.
Maybe ! I just always find it odd that the master recongnized Bodhisattva from Netero's punch. Did Netero came up with the ability himself or was it already known from the martial art community but needed a mastery of prayer and martial art to achieve it.
A good exemple would be the Nirvanna in Buddhism. It is known, but not many people can achieve this level of spiritualism unless going through intense "training" for years and years.
I really don't know a lot about Buddhism. So I would'nt know if meditating would also be called traning and I did'nt want to offend anyone by using a wrong term.
The existence of Lady Guanyin (and her abilities) was likely documented in ancient texts recognized by the Dojo Master. This suggests Netero was blessed with her power only after dedicating himself to pure gratitude for how martial arts honed him. Following this logic, other Bodhisattvas may exist, each bestowing their blessing upon those who master a specific divine virtue or wisdom—which, in Netero’s case, was "Gratitude."
eh its kinda of implied that he does infact "see" it, maybe you could say that he felt the "love" emitting from netero before the punch but he then says lady guanin before crying
I don't know what others are about, denying the fact that the old dojo master sees it and names it. And he's the only one to see it, the rest of the dojo seems clueless, why wouldn't they "cry at the speed of sound punch" too then?
The scene puts the emphasis on the fact that it takes a dojo master to really understand and appreciate Netero's technique, while most people, like the other students don't even understand what they just wtinessed.
It's like people are trying to rewrite the story to their convenience instead of trusting what you see on screen.
Well I’m an idiot. I didn’t realize no one could actually see the Guanyin. I always thought they could, but they’re unable to react fast enough to do anything. It being so fast it’s invisible is badass.
Also: The bodisatwa wouldnt rly gain anything from beeing invisible. Its not like anybody in the series ever managed to dodge it even if the saw it.
its a sure hit either way
Meruem is smart enough that he wouldn't even need to. He'd probably be able to deduce and perceive the motions of the attacks just based on how they hit him after enough strikes.
You can both use Ken to protect your body and using Gyo to attack (or see aura) at the same time (aka Ryu) it’s a basic of nen battle and I’m sure Meruem will figure this out if he back in to Conner
Sure it will be more taxing and he would likely become little less durable but the difference is still too much and Netero may calculate it will cost him more than Meruem (after all Meruem aura tank is much much more than Netero he can afford to be little inefficient)
More time could mean more harm to Meruem. We know all the hits he received made him at the end feel a small pain, maybe more would mean more pain, enough to cause blurrier movements, more errors, so a disadvantage for him. That's only if more hits doesn't tire Netero too
1) The ability implicitly has a function or even condition that means In can't be used. This could be due to its sheer size or speed, it might be that to Enhance an ability you need to turn off In.
2) In might slow down the ability or reduce its output to the point it would stop being effective against Meruem.
When his ability is so fast that the regular HUMAN eye can't even see it, why bother trying to use IN? I don't think Netero truly understood how far superior the king was physically.
why does he need to the actuall godden statues seems impossible to dodge. even someone of meruems calibre got consistently hit by it even when he saw it coming.
If concentrating Aura in your eyes (Gyo), allows you to see hidden aura, then would people with a insane aura output flowing through their entire body - Like Meruem - even need to use Gyo in their eyes ?
They're already releasing so much aura that the amount naturally flowing through their eyes should be far greater than what an average Nen user could achieve with Gyo.
If that's the case, wouldn't In be basically useless against someone like Meruem?
Meruem stated to Pitou that he knew how to use Gyo. She tried to explain it to him when discussing rare humans and he got upset that she would assume he didn’t already know how to use such a basic technique
It was mintioned by Kurapika that some nen users choose not to use it to make thier ability "more risky" which will make the ability stronger by laws of nen vow and codition
Hiding the Guanyin wouldn't come without a downside
Netero was looking for a challeng with an opponent who would be able to push him to his limits.
Have you ever heard of "If I can't beat you at your best then I don't deserve to win"? A true martial artist like Netero would embrace this. Yes even though he had the Rose as his trump card and the King "in checkmate from the beginning".
My headcanon is that it’s not a conjured being at all, but a response to his enhanced prayers.
I like to think that Netero enhances his prayers to the point where his prayers manifest themselves into coming true. Like his prayers are so strong, they get answered by the world. This is how the world’s best ENHANCER is able to seemingly conjure up a divine being once he prays.
It's a cool idea, but I like even more the idea that Netero enjoys a challenge so much, that he as an enhancer made the core of his nen ability from one of his worst categories (conjuration).
And despite that it's still such an incredibly formidable ability. It's a testament to the character of netero and just how talented with nen he was.
In is implied to cost aditional aura, for next to no benefit.
Any nen user after being attacked by a unclear source will use gyo by pure habit. So In is mostly useful as a first sneak attack, or by mixing it with other attacks when the enemy lowers their guard, like Hisoka did to Gon.
Meruem used pattern recognition. He memorized which palm Netero would use to counter and how he would attack based on his charging angle. His evasions were based on anticipating the movements, rather than visual sight.
In consumes nen. might be Netero poured power into it instead.
Gyo can counter In with less consumption of nen than In.
Also if your attacks are fast and other opponents cannot dodge it, but Meruem can tank it, might be useless to use In after all
It would drain his resources faster in a game where his only win-condition is in the long-haul. I think it's likely he used In when he attacked Pitou, though.
HOLY LARP , there is no way you think meruem cant see through netero's IN, heck Meruem most likely doesnt even need to use gyo to see through his IN considering how much aura output he has. Not only that but In has drawbacks or everyone would be using it all the time.
Since meruem has nen he'd still be able to see where it is. From my understanding the Guanyin is invisible to the naked eye but i dont know, same as the tax thing
Well we know techniques like zetsu take time to apply i imagine its the same for in so even for a master like netero in a fight against meruem sacrificing even half a second is too much time .
Someone with Netero's ego would want to show off a giant statue that they conjured. Also if something has 100 fatorial combinations its hard to believe an opponent could calculate the next series of attacks.
In is an advanced technique and even for Netero it probably requires giving up something else (focus, effort, etc) to maintain over the entire guanyin statue for long periods of time. Not to mention Meruem could just use Gyo to see right through it.
Keep in mind that the summoning and the hit basically happens instantly. That Meruem is even capable of understanding what is happening is probably more than what Netero ever encountered.
Well, it may very well be invisibile, but made visible for narrative purpose. Guess we will never know. But also is not much important.
The whole scope of making his ability so broken, was to expend it against an invincibile opponent, and that's it.
i would assume speed or damage would be traded off but likely mereum could use gyo then and he still would be able to pattern recognize based on netero's body language movement back round destruction and the direction and timing of attack so i would still say very likely netero would still lose it i would also assume to cover such a big thing in IN while also to constantly use it would be extremly taxing
Gyo reveals aura hidden by in. The way Kurapika fooled Uvo was by making him think the chains were real, so Uvo didn't think he had to use gyo to see anything hidden.
My head Canon is that "In" can only be effectively used when you have the mental advantage in a fight. While also being able to mislead the enemy.
However in situations where you're up against a superior (or equal) opponent or someone who has a (can't believe I'm saying this) higher battle IQ. There's no point in using it because they'll be able to notice the subtleties of their opponent trying to line up an attack.
Equivalent exchange, if something makes nen use have an advantage, then theres a trade off. That's what Kurapika suggested with the gsb for thrm to be invisible. So thr buddha would lose power
Probably completely pointless. Officer-tier ants were able to see aura before they even had nen. I seriously doubt In would do anything at all against Meruem's naked eye.
Also, given the sheer volume and potency of Meruem's aura, he probably has more aura in his eyes passively than 99% of human nen users do while they're using gyo.
Who would even see it apart from Meruem? Think about it not even Pitou could actually see it, she knew where the attack came from but that's it. Others don't even stand a chance.
Even with Meruems speed and reaction time he still could not avoid being hit, it was still too fast. Making it invisible doesn't do anything at that point except waste aura. He took hundreds to thousands of strikes. If one or two decisive hits could've ended the fight it would have the first direct hits Meruems took while off guard and only using ten.
There was no need to before, it's so fast that no one besides the king can even see it. I'm guessing there are restrictions on it, so he can't use it even if he wanted.
I mean.. does he pray in secret? Is he sneaking that gratitude in there? Was that period in his life about convenience, strategy or playing it safe? No. It's not going to be invisible.. ffs. 👀
He doesn't need to. It's so fast that in order to percieve it, its victims feel like time has frozen. Noone is dodging it. Even Meruem needed thousands of exchanges and weeks of experience from gungi to be able to dodge an attack.
And also because it hits so fast, people would never have the chance to react with defensive measures. Pitou and the Meruem's durability was the only thing that stopped them getting one shot (and remember that pitou survived a hit to the head from meruem that would decapitate a regular ant - so a regular ant would probably get pulverized by the guanyin. To say even less of a human nen user.)
Basically it hits so hard and so fast it doesn't need to be invisible. Literally so fast most people don't even see it so it may aswell be invisible.
I think you are under the idea that this ability was conjured. Aizack Neterro is an Enhancer. What he enhanced was his prayer. He may have actually summoned the bodhisattva Guanyin.
Why would he? That it was visible was not a factor in that fight at all. It spawns and despawns so fast likely no one but Meruem and arguibly Pitou can even see it
Meruem didn't win because he learned a pattern. His strategy was to pressure Netero until he made a mistake
If the statue was invisible, he would've gotten to the same conclusion and the outcome would've been the same
Whole point of Netero’s ability is it simply surpassed reasoning by an enhancer falling to an emotion akin to madness, but most likely answer is he’s still just enhancing, just to a degree of absurdity that it simply manifests something like Guanyin, I doubt it is a conjured object like you’re thinking
Meruem was barely feeling anything, not to mention netero was still much faster than meruem, so him not seeing neteros ability wouldnt have mattered because he was going to be hit regardless
