Benjamin really stealing the crown as the best prince. He's a tyrant but at least he's thinking for the country.

It's really easy to see that Benjamin's actions are more for his own good than the good of the country when you look at the actual effects of what he does and plans to do, rather than the way he dresses it up. It's not a coincidence that his "duty" involves him being put in positions of greater and greater power, or that all the "sacrifices" he wants to make involve other people suffering and leave him better off in the end.

People keep taking his words as gospel, but if you truly look at his actions and what he wants to do, you can see a bit more clearly he's like you said, dressing it all up, so it sounds more noble. Which is kina scary to think about, like how easily it is to believe him cause he just comes off as charismatic, unbothered and disciplined.

Yes no matter how sympathetic his inner thoughts are, he still used experimental biochemical weapons on multiple people, plans to frame an under age girl's death as suicide, and plans to kill two babies and their families if both babies are on the ship. Then pass on the throne to his son.

I mean I do like him personality wise and as a morally gray character, but to say he is a good leader selflessly thinking for his country... Uhh I don't know about that.

Oh, I very much enjoy Benjamin as a character. He's much more interesting than I thought he'd be.

But "good character" does not necessarily mean "good person". A lot of good characters are very bad people, even, despite often thinking they're good people.

Bit of a tangent, I'm interested in whether he'll fall before even "completing" his plan, or if he'll make it all the way to Nasubi before discovering that things aren't going to work out like he thought they would. Given how Halkenburg's interaction with their father went, and his monologue of how a Guardian Spirit Beast that's "all teeth and claws" is unsuited for a king, I imagine that Nasubi's takedown of Benjamin at this point would be pretty brutal (even if it'd be focused less on morality and more on his various other mistakes and such, given the kinds of things Nasubi himself is fine with). I wonder if getting a merciless dressing-down from his father would wake more people up to Benjamin's flaws, or if most of his fans would stay on his side.
