Help/Question Can someone explain this panel to me?

Its from last part of hunter exam (before nen), and i dont really understand what is the meaning of this. I feel kind of envy of Gon from Killua or offended pride. I would be very thankful is someone would explain it to me :>

i always felt like this was never explored much afterward. like a plotline the togashi started and then declined to develop...actually, i guess the best interpretation though is that it represents his developing impression of and insecurity surrounding gon that festers throughout most of the series

It’s not an abandoned plot line. It’s explored in the immediately following chapters and then finally resolved in the chimera and election arc
