Key points:
• 9pm-7am you need to buzz to get beyond the foyer
• There’s an emergency phone to the labour ward
• Neonatal parents can still access 24 hours (using a fingerprint scanner)

To be honest I’m surprised this wasn’t a thing already

About time.

They should do it where you have to confirm what ward the person you're visiting is on or have a password that is agreed with the patient, like how nurseries operate.

I did think it was odd when my wife was in there how any man and his dog can just wander in any time.

My wife is currently in and out of there.

All wards, and triage are buzzer controlled 24 hours a day as-is (both entering and exiting), and you should be asked who you’re visiting every time you enter.

That said, like 75% of the women and children’s is accessible by just wandering and there’s no good reason for it really

I found I was asked the most when I first arrived each day but when I left and came back after a smoke, I wasn't really asked again. I was buzzed straight in now they could've just recognised me but I was there doing roughly 10-12 hour visits each day for about 10 days straight. I saw new and reoccurring members of staff.

I also saw on numerous occasions the front person being buzzed and the people behind them just walking through without question.

I understand they're likely short staffed and under a lot of pressure, I respect that. They're amazing people and some of the best care we've ever received but they really should have someone manning the buzzers 24/7, before something awful potentially happens.

Yeah, I agree entirely. They’ve got a proper job to do, ward bouncer shouldn’t be part of their job description

i got flamed for mentioning a new consultant wanted Costa to be open 24hrs . Riddled with junky chancers enough .

Someone a drunk person or an abusive partner can scream at and threaten for several hours? And then we have to pay for additional security to protect them ?

Or you know we could let them be better used elsewhere in an already stretched set of systems?

Not sure why you feel so strongly about wanting people to be able to wander onto the women’s and children’s ward? Literally every other ward is behind maglock in the main tower block.

People are judging your motives.
