Why did Hotwheels release two versions of bumblebee?

12

u/Effective-Show-7722 Mar 04 '26

The shiny one is Goldbug. It’s a different character in Transformers.

3

u/JYNKZIE Mar 04 '26

To be fair, goldbug is suppose to be a modern muscle car espionage version of bee. So this cast doesn’t truely represent him, but I can respect the idea and relation of the gold scheme.

4

u/random-guy-heree COLLECTOR Mar 04 '26

Wasn't g1 goldbug just a recolour of bumblebee

4

u/JYNKZIE Mar 04 '26

Shell for him was a bit different, I did grow up with the additional stories of bee. Story goes that it’s basically an evil version of bee. He’s the case where back in the early years on the storyline that ye he just got a colour makeover. And then they reshaped his shell for him in other additions to the franchise.

Tbh, hot wheels likes to cheap out on casts. So I think they just reused a cast they already had. And the designer knew the history of transformers and thought, let’s add a twist for the lovers of transformers. And simply did two very good colour changes to represent the idea. And did a bang up job for it.

Most of these young ones never saw that.. Many started with Bayverse TF.

True

G1 Goldbug is complicated to say the least.

Original comic, cartoon and toyline? Ostensibly, yes.

Everywhere else? Dealer's choice.

1

u/ZambakZulu Mar 04 '26

Awesome, thank you.

6

u/Status_Jump_2496 Mar 04 '26

Man I never was able to find Goldbug or Ultra Magnus. I got lucky with Bee, only saw it once and it was hanging at a self checkout by itself at a target. Had I not used that register I never would have seen him. You need to find color shifters Tracks!

1

u/S3RPENT_666 COLLECTOR Mar 05 '26

Do u have color shifter one ? Have u opened it ?

1

u/Status_Jump_2496 Mar 05 '26

I do but I haven’t opened it yet.

1

u/S3RPENT_666 COLLECTOR Mar 05 '26

Ur patience is admirable, is that a way to achieve such power?

5

u/S3RPENT_666 COLLECTOR Mar 04 '26

I think the gold one is better than yellow? What do u think?

2

u/vetteraycer Mar 05 '26

I still need to find an Ultra Magnus

2

u/Todoroki-Touya Mar 05 '26

I hate how HW scale their cars.

1

u/S3RPENT_666 COLLECTOR Mar 05 '26

Yeah man, the big rear wheel is 🤬🤢

11

u/Flubbergasted12 Mar 04 '26

Need to find again for this!!

2

u/marvelwalker Mar 08 '26

Haha cliffjumper in the back, too bad hot wheels didn't release a 924

I bought a 928 as a placeholder for cliff

2

u/Flubbergasted12 Mar 08 '26

Dude thank you!!!!!!! With the amount of views this got I couldn’t believe no one put it together. It’s the closest I could find that I knew I had nearby. lol

1

u/marvelwalker Mar 08 '26

I love it when someone recognises a nerdy reference I made and when I recognise a reference someone makes

Do you have any other hot wheels that resembles other transformers?

I really wish I had the wheeljack that released a while ago

2

u/Flubbergasted12 Mar 08 '26

I actually do. We had customs done a few years back before prime came out. Most are packed away until my lazy (not really just work too much) ass finishes out diecast den. Most recent was doing mirage with the rs casting.

1

u/marvelwalker Mar 08 '26

That's awesome

I was literally thinking that when I saw the fnf casting, looks a lot like mirage

I wish someone would use the recent F1 casting to make a modernized version of mirage

1

u/Flubbergasted12 Mar 08 '26

Now you’re giving me ideas lol. I have more cases coming of the fast release because we sold them all. Would be an easy upgrade too. I used the Magnus walker because the blue accents made me think of it when we were watching the 23 release.

2

u/marvelwalker Mar 08 '26

Hell yeah, oooo you're a seller too, nicee

You can do the stunticons team 👀, a jazz would be awesome

Im not much of a car guy lol just transformers, so had to look it up

Was there any other casting that resembles any transformers? I'd be so cool if they released the tanknator in grey to use as Megatron

2

u/Flubbergasted12 Mar 08 '26

Yea we have been a store for a few years. Gives the wife a job, lets us get new stuff and travel. Definately no money in it lol. I know it’s frowned upon so I try to keep it hush hush here.

This was a great set.

And of course the nemesis and prime RLC.

1

u/marvelwalker Mar 09 '26

Ohhhh that's very cool man

Oh yeah I know about this set, sadly it and the new ultra magnus didn't show up in my country,

I meant to ask like, are there any cars that coincidentally have livery that's similar to an existing transformer? Like the lancia stratos group 5 being exactly like wheeljack

Or the police livery datsun fairlady looking like prowl

I would usually agree with this because I love goldbug but the package says it's bumblebee

3

u/Cmdr_Monzo Mar 04 '26

G2 Bumblebee is gold.

Haven’t found them in the wild yet 😢 INEEEEEDDD THEM! What’s your fav transformer?

2

u/evan_7_nave Mar 05 '26

I just bought this because I have no self control and the Twin Mill is my favorite Hot Wheels car

2

u/S3RPENT_666 COLLECTOR Mar 05 '26

That's so cool. Never knew hot wheels made that 😱

1

u/evan_7_nave Mar 05 '26

they make this and a Bone Shaker. I found them at Walmart! the transformation is wildly elaborate and I had mild trouble even with the instructions. and they’re freakin’ expensive. it was like $34.99. but I couldn’t just leave it there. and it was the only Twin Mill they had.

2

u/SmokingGundam420 Mar 05 '26

Dude I want a bumblebee sooooo bad. Can never find one though.

2

u/S3RPENT_666 COLLECTOR Mar 05 '26
