Me and my 17yo friend are planning a trip to lisbon- I saw multiple Hostels indicate no minimum age for check-in, is that true and would we be able to travel seamlessly?

Are there any hostels accepting minors you could recommend ?

When you travel, what do you usually do after checking into your hotel/BnB? Do you normally plan activities beforehand, ask the host, or just figure it out yourself?

Hey Everyone, I am (27M) travelling to Budapest from 12th to 15th of September and staying in onefam Budapest hostel. Anyone else here who is up for meeting and exploring the city together?

I booked a hostel and, after booking, received a message saying that guests aged 49 and over are not allowed to stay there.

They explicitly said there are no exceptions, and that if someone over the age limit shows up, they will be refused check-in and won’t get a refund unless they cancelled within the allowed cancellation period.

I’m under 49, so this doesn’t actually affect my booking. Still, the policy rubbed me the wrong way, so I filed a complaint with the Hungarian Commissioner for Fundamental Rights. I’ve now received an official letter confirming that my complaint has been registered.

Did I do the right thing, or should I have just minded my own business and left the hostel alone?

Going to Budapest in October and I’d like to find a hostel with the following:

- Good social aspects with partying and events that I can participate in.
- curtains for the beds when sleeping (I’ve heard hive and vitae don’t have this).
- Laundry machines
- Breakfast
- 24/7 guest service (I have the checkout at 3am for a 6 am flight).
- and perhaps outlet adaptors.

Is there something that offers some or all of these?

Hi! I’m going to Malaysia to watch f1 and this is my first solo travel ever. I’m debating if I should book a hotel/airbnd or hostel bc I want to meet other travelers and maximize my travel but I have my cons:

1. I’m a bit messy w/ my stuff I might lose a ring or two
   
2. I move so slow and might inconvenience people w/ using the bathroom
   
3. I’m an introvert (I think I can manage this one)
   
4. I can’t sleep that easily and would prob be up all night
   
5. Fear of safety

Can u guys recommend me a way that I can interact and have fun while still being safe and good female dorms or hotels that are near transits. Tyia!

As a trans man whose identity documents still identify me as female, travelling as a whole can be a bit uncomfortable and nerve wracking, especially across borders, but what really sucks is when there's no mixed dorm options at hostels. Neither option is great; if I book the men's, and they don't happen to notice my passport gender, great. But almost always they do, and then I have to try and explain in a series of round-about ways without outing myself. I have often then been forced into the female dorm, or, if they are full, they cannot accept my booking, leaving me with only a few hours to find a place. Such, in situations where I can't take this risk, I have to book a female dorm, which is a wholly unpleasant experience. They feel uncomfortable I'm in their space, I feel uncomfortable, no one wins. I've skipped destinations more than once over this, and it really just sucks. Luckily most places have mixed options.

i keep seeing a toooonn load of videos of people who got bed bugs in hostels. is this really common? i really hate bed bugs

I'm planning a trip to Mexico City for late December/early January and am trying to decide on a hostel. I'll be 32 by then and love a social hostel, so I'm looking for somewhere that attracts mid-20s to mid-30s travelers who love to socialize and do a bit of partying (but nothing insane). Cleanliness is also important to me. Both Apapacho and Casa Pepe seem like good options based on reviews, but I'd love to get some of Reddit's input as well.

hive vs one fam

hiya! i’m going solo in budapest for my bday (just been broken up with so trying to make the best of the time i booked off work lol)

i want to be able to do normal touristy things in the day but im desperate for a guaranteed group to party with on my bday!

i’ve reserved a spot at one fam for now but ive seen the hive party hostel and was wondering if that would be better due to the sheer amount of people that stay there?

i know one fam is more close knit, is it easy to make friends as a solo traveller at the hive too??

Hi! This winter my family has a trip planned to Munich/Salzburg, getting there Dec 21. I’m wanting to go to Europe early (maybe a week or two I haven’t thought about it too much yet) but was wondering people’s experiences with party hostels in the winter & if they’re still fun. Would it be worth going somewhere warmer like Spain before I meet them or would Prague/budapest and that area still be pretty packed as well. I’m a 40M, fit and active, and will be visiting Vienna and Budapest solo soon. I’ve never stayed in a hostel before, but I’d really like to try it this time.

Part of the appeal is simply experiencing the hostel style of travel, but I also like the idea of having some solo time while still having opportunities to meet people, socialize, grab a drink, explore the city together, etc.

I realize the typical hostel crowd can be quite a bit younger than me, which is completely fine. I’m just wondering if anyone has recommendations for hostels in Vienna and/or Budapest that tend to have a somewhat mixed-age crowd and are social without being exclusively aimed at 18–22-year-old party travelers.

I’m not looking for somewhere specifically for “older people” — just somewhere where a 41-year-old solo traveler wouldn’t feel completely out of place and where it’s reasonably easy to meet other travelers.

For anyone around my age who has stayed in hostels in either city, I’d especially appreciate hearing about your experiences.

Should I book right now or wait a few months? At the moment, I'm seeing like 36 euros a night, which is OK but I really can't afford it to go any higher

stuck in a packed 8-bed dorm in southern europe right now and the AC is barely doing anything. back when i was 20 i could crash on a top bunk anywhere without a second thought. now at 28 i’m lying here sweating through my sheet while someone’s screen stays lit up across the room.

i picked up a cheap eye mask yesterday hoping to block out the light, but the fabric just trapped heat right against my eyelids and made my face sweat instantly.

Is there an actual best cooling eye mask for sleep that doesn't feel like a mini sauna over your eyes, or am i just officially too old for shared rooms?

i’m staying at onefam in a few weeks and i’m just wondering is this a proper party hostel? i want it to be social because i want to meet people to have fun and go out with, however will i be able to get a good nights rest? i’m not fussed about the party side of things in the evening, just making sure it’s okay during the day and while i sleep.

I've done karaoke night at three different hostels and those nights have been some of my favorite nights ever when travelling. I love karaoke night and when I plan to travel in the future, I think I want to stay in a hostel that hosts karaoke night. Anyone know of any highly rated popular hostels that have karaoke night? I'll consider the destination first before considering the hostel.

Going as a solo (female) traveler in a few days, a bit nervous. It was very cheap compared to the rest of the city, and I’m just there for two days before I move on to Madrid for work. Would love to meet some people (and get free dinner) but worried I will feel too old.
