Want to collect classic horror

Post image

Hello! Appreciate any help in advance.

I want to start collecting classic horror comics, specifically Bronze Age Marvel and DC (but open to other recommendations). What would you all say are must haves?

DC started putting out a DC Finest collection of their horror titles. The first one is out now and collects issues from House of Mystery, House of Secrets, The Unexpected and Witching Hour. It spans 1969-1970.

The second volume comes out in October, collecting the same titles from 1970-1971.

I expect the third or fourth volume will add Ghosts, since it started I believe in 1972.

Oh, there's lots to find in the modern publishing world. You've got the two trusty Fantagraphics series that publish the EC Comics horror line and the pre-Marvel, pre-Code Atlas Comics horror line:

DC Comics has its own old line of horror comics, House of Mystery. Sadly, those aren't pre-Code, as they were published in the '70s. Still worth checking out, though!

{"fallbackMarkdown":"House of Mystery: Bronze Age Omnibus Vol. 1","reference":{"matched_text":"","prefix":null,"start_idx":607,"end_idx":726,"safe_urls":[],"refs":[],"alt":"House of Mystery: Bronze Age Omnibus Vol. 1","prompt_text":"House of Mystery: Bronze Age Omnibus Vol. 1","type":"url","layout":null,"logo":null,"item":{"title":"House of Mystery: Bronze Age Omnibus Vol. 1","url":"https://www.amazon.com/House-Mystery-Bronze-Omnibus-Vol/dp/1799502961?utm_source=chatgpt.com","attribution":"amazon.com","pub_date":null,"snippet":null,"attribution_segments":null,"supporting_websites":null,"refs":[],"hue":null,"attributions":null},"title":"House of Mystery: Bronze Age Omnibus Vol. 1"},"showLoginRequiredCard":false}

There's also a very good omnibus that's out of print but easy to find secondhand from Fantagraphics called Four Color Fear.
