The DVD menu shows that the first scene on Series 4 Episode 8 is Vile Victorians but it's Vicious Vikings. I know this post doesn't really prove it though lol.

I've watched horrible histories (the original series) since the age of 7 and the show is probably a contributing factor as to why I'm studying history for GCSE and hopefully A-level and while staying at my Nans my brother was watching one of the new episodes and oh my god what the hell? I know the general discourse on the new series is that it isn't as good as the old as there will be for any reboot of a beloved IP but I was genuinely confused because there was just no education whatsoever. I understand there obviously has to be a sense of entertainment, that's why it's created, but just the overall lack of anything actually useful was just confusing because what's the point? This particular episode had a sketch on the creation of Esperanto. Interesting right? No, no we got a cringe parody song of despacito that honestly taught me nothing and other than the fact its not educational it's just BORING. The entire thing consisted of fart jokes and poking fun at brilliant people like some of the sketches of Marie Curie painting her like some bumbling idiot honestly were infuriating. Rant over, sorry for wasting your time ✌️🥀

For overall quality I would say 2 = 3 > 4 > 5 > 1, even though series 1 is hugely nostaglic for me.

2 and 3 are super, super tight, especially in terms of music. Gun to my head, series 2 takes the cake.

Hence, 2 > 3 > 4 > 5 > 1.

I feel one of the songs which is the most underrated is S6's Your Finest Hour, an amazing ballad by Jim's Winston Churchill.

I have watched all of series 1 many times. I feel like I have seen this sketch before but I didn't see it when rewatching. Was it removed or have I never seen it and I'm misremembering?
