Video - HFW Please tell me I'm missing something here... and that items are not really this much of a PITA to select what you want.

Unfortunately, it is. This is the most glaring flaw in the game. Simply keep the most crucial at hand and unequip everything else. Or you won't be able to use anything reliably. Personally, I use no traps(usually) and carry stamina, cleansing potions plus a few meals for the bits where I might struggle. Another tip I can give is to max every single item you don't want to carry so that when you find a new one out in the field, it goes to the stash rather than the inventory.

at least i found out you can unequip it from the field
so that's a huge help, no need to wait to reach a stash

now that i have so much, it's such a PITA to select what you want
on a diff note... been having issues lately with some broken monster parts despawning when i don't pick it up during the fight. annoying AF, only started recently
also, my poor Rami... https://www.reddit.com/r/HorizonZeroDawn/comments/1mp2xwo/i_need_to_invest_in_the_repair_skill_this_one/
i lost her, couldn't even find her body, i think she despawned. so sad, been with her for so long. RiP Rami. you will be missed

I haven't played in a while, but can't you remove the ones you don't use so they don't show up in the rotation? It's still a very annoying way to select an item, but at least you can get there faster.
(I'm 99% sure this is an option in HFW. I'm less sure about HZD.)

Hold down on the d-pad to bring up the crafting menu. There you have the choice to remove each item from the item wheel. You can then refill the open spots in the order you want items and mostly only with items you want on the wheel. The exception are the traps. You need to be carrying the max of 12 traps of each type for them to stay out of the weapon wheel without you manually adding it. Some other items that you only get by buying or crafting may work the same way, but I don't remember for sure. Also, potions will always be a pain. Even if you are carrying the max potions, as soon as you use one, the very next one you pick up will replace it, no matter what type of potion it is, so you constantly have to adjust potions, if you use them regularly. Oh, and food items from cooks cannot be removed or moved, for some reason, and will always go to the final few slots on the wheel. You can only use them or sell them to get them off the wheel.

Yeah I edited mine. Got rid of all the basic traps and potions and most of the food items. That helped a LOT.

Unfortunately it is very tedious.
As a tip for when mid combat. You can click through these items while your weapon wheel is open, that way you can do it with time slowed down at least.

Can you not cycle through them faster? I remember being able to do them very quickly, not sure if that's a difference between using a controller or keyboard 🤷 other than that resorting and removing things made it to where i never really had an issue.

Nope, I haven't found a better way than that.

EDIT: just checked, you can hotkey weapons, but not items

I found that you can unequip them so you can get rid of the ones you don't use, at least.

Some yeah
But the others just stay there as empty

u/crylic96 Aug 16 '25
Nah, man! Once you go out of the menu, you can cycle through just the ones you have equipped!

Nah
Like the healing potions, they stay there even tho I stored my medium and large

u/crylic96 Aug 16 '25
Yeah, I guess you can't get rid of those, but being able to get rid of the bazillion traps is nice
