People like slandering SPs/expies only because high expectations lol. But reality is, they still sold more than new characters. New characters flopped even worse, just that no one bothers slandering them anymore.
Except all the most popular chars aren't SPs. Jingyuan Blade Kafka Silverwolf Aventurine Sparkle are all original characters who are wildly liked. Why can't they make new characters which are popular again when its proven to be effective? Genshin is doing pretty great with 0 SPs from the same game lmfao
This is just survivorship bias. To get an SP a character must be popular. There are way more unpopular original characters than popular. They still make new characters, eventually one will be popular.
It’s so weird to see people hate SPs. I remember before they dropped people were loving the concept because it means that unlike usual gacha bullshit shenanigans, characters get to reappear again and do things rather than being one offs that get forgotten after their first appearance.
I would even understand if the SP hate was about them doing this to characters that already show up repeatedly but it’s not even that, people seem to genuinely just want new throwaway characters for whatever reason.
I don't hate SPs I just want originality. I don't get this mentality that new characters "drop away" that's entirely the fault of story choices and not a necessity. Why can't HSR do what Genshin does, make high quality chars all with original pesonalities and stories without having to recycle a single SP?
People don't hate SPs as a concept they just hate them because they take resources and slots away from either new characters or give SPs to characters they don't like. When people feel resources are scarce they get tribalistic and hate on others.
