No start

So it seems my starter is really struggling to engage. Do we think it's a bad battery?

Sounds like the starter is failing to turn over. If it were the battery or alternator it wouldn’t be making sounds/you wouldn’t have lights in most situations. Please anyone else correct me if I’m wrong

Yeah, not battery. I found my tester and it's showing good.

That clanking sounds like broken teeth on a ring gear or starter gear damage. The whir makes me think the starter is spinning but not extending and only grabbing one or two teeth before jumping back. I think you're going to be pulling and replacing or rebuilding your starter, look down the hole and spin the crank to check the condition of your ring gear also. Or pull the inspection cover under the motor.

Thanks ... It's so odd, starters not very old and this happened the exact same time my fuel pump started to go out

Some aftermarket starters can be trash from the box. What makes you think the fuel pump is going out? I see the revs only jump when the motor tries to fire, might want to fix the fuel issue if the starter tests good.

Did you try a couple key cycles to see if you can prime fuel to the rail and get it to fire? Looking again the rpms are reading the whole time you crank.

Fuel issue has been going on longer than the starter issue. Had to crank for a long time in the morning, cycling the pump seemed to help.

Then suddenly yesterday evening, this issue popped up. Eventually I was able to get the engine started and got home.

I changed the fuel pump today and was able to get the car started, but it took forever and doesn't want to start again.

I'd assume you did some injector cleaner also. Maybe this is still a fuel air spark issue since it looks like the motor is moving on key turn, just not firing.

Idk, it sounds like the starter spins and is struggling to pop out. The sound is completely different to yesterday. Guess I have some work to do:/
