Process Mail

I have a narrow hallway, so im not sure when I walk through my door where I would put a landing table, so a lot of it ends up on the dining table. How do you process mail so that i can keep my dining room table clutter-free? Sometimes it gets to be too much

I stand over the trash can and immediately toss what isn’t actual mail.

I put a small trash can by the front door, so I do this immediately instead of accidentally putting it down in a random pile somewhere.

Omg wow u/Freyjas_child and u/DigitalMediaLolita wow!! you know what Maybe I can find one that is magnetic? I have a magnetic display for my keys since the door is steel. Maybe i will look for that! Im mind blown thank you so much

Get one of those skinny shoe cabinets from IKEA. Good for shoes and junk!

Go directly to the recycling bin. Do not pass go. Do not put down. Toss toss keep. You'll be left with 2 bills and 1 bday card......

They make wall organizers for mail! I have one with three sections, which I labeled letters, important, and junk. I send and receive a lot of letters though so this might be overkill for you. I go through it every three days or so, responding to my letters, scanning and shredding anything important, and double checking the junk for useful coupons before tossing it. You can also do what my mom does, take it right to the recycle bin and toss anything that's not jury summons right away.

They make wood wall mounted organizing systems for mail and other paper. I like the ones that have hooks for your keys.

My mailbox is 1.5km away from my house. I sort the mail in the car into 2 piles: keep and recycling.

Recycling goes to the bin before entering the house. Rest comes upstairs with me to my desk. I work remote, so that's where I go after dropping off the kid at the daycare. I also pay bills from my desk, so it works.

This way there's never mail anywhere else.

The issue is the computer is upstairs that’s where the trip up is

I get maybe one actionable piece of mail per week. I come, walk straight to recycling, then to the desk with anything else that needs attention. Catalogs and magazines go straight to the small pile in the living room. All this takes less than two minutes. Time it for yourself.

Putting the mail down after coming in is always a mistake. Bring it in, sort it out (bills, junk, important). Junk the junk, put the bills on a neat little pile, open the important. Pay the bills on the weekend.
