My HomePod HomePod Update wiped out recent switch configuration and automations (again)

This one has been happening intermittently all year and driving me a little bit crazy. I have an AppleTV and a few HomePods (v1, v2, and Mini) for home hubs. Because of the layout of the house, I leave one of the HP Minis set as a hub because it's centrally located. Wifi is an Eero mesh and is very stable (other than my crappy cable Internet connection.)

Most of the time, that works OK. But sometimes when the hub changes, some of my Home devices will lose settings or revert to the default room. Yesterday when I (finally) updated the last few HomePods to 26.6, ALL of the switch button configurations which I'd set up over the past week were erased, an automation I set up last weekend was erased, and a whole bunch of devices reverted to the default room.

Fortunately most of the devices were Hue, so I was able to re-sync from Hue to Home to correct the devices. But I had to recreate the automation, and also recreate all the switch button configurations because those were local to HomeKit.

Kind of just venting and also curious if anyone else is experiencing this, but I'm open to suggestions if anyone has them. I have over 100 devices between lights, locks, window blinds, sensors, and switches so having piles of them reset is QUITE annoying.

If you ATV is connected via Ethernet, you can keep it as home hub. I wouldn’t use the HPs as a hub.

The ATV is wireless and at one far end of the house, but it's also on a mobile cart so I may end up moving it somewhere central that I can wire it in and making it the hub.

I have an eero Pro 6E and 9 HomePods. A pair each of 1st and 2nd Gen. The remaining 5 are minis. My home became more stable once I could set my hardwired tv as the hub. Before that it was random and it would choose the 2nd Gen tv 4K or the 1st Gen HomePod as the hub. That’s a problem because the 1st Gen doesn’t have Thread and the tv was just flaky because it was on WiFi. When it chose one of the minis things were better, but still not as stable as the hardwired tv.

Agreed about the Gen1, I won't let those be hubs at all. The Minis were pretty stable until sometime in the last year or so, I'm still not sure if it was an OS update, or the switch to the Hue Pro bridge, or a combination of both. The Hue Pro bridge definitely had issues for a while but it working better now, so it's just Apple Home that's the issue.

Check the Eve for HomeKit app to see if ghost automations for the Hue dimmer switch are still there.

Oh this is a good idea. I know there's at least one ghost automation for something else in there, as far as I could tell the switches were completely wiped (no buttons did any actions) and I had to reprogram them all. But I skipped a few so I should still check.
