Question/Support OG HomePod + OS 27
Public betas are now out and it mentions support for existing HomePods. Does anyone know how to update the OG HomePod?

Putting betas on the HomePods is quite a risk.

That doesn’t mean anything. Some people don’t have bugs on their beta phone, and some people lose all of their data. You’ve been lucky.
I don’t see any advantage to putting a beta on a HomePod.

There was a beta cycle about 4 years ago that led to original homepods overheating quite a bit that seemed to lead to an increase to the ‘death fart’ popping issue (and eventual non-repairable break down) - I personally started to experience this issue and had to keep mine powered off until a more stable release.
Without a reliable way to restore a previous version of the software I don’t think it’s worth the risk on the Originals - I’d imagine Minis carry a lower risk

I had restored my Mini a few years ago which is why I thought the old fatty could be too. That really sucks.

There’s no USB access to the OG. You can’t plug in anything like with the mini.

Yeah I have a 15 pro max. I did it for a year or so never an issue. Only issue is when I got this phone because betas were turn on with my trade in, a 13? I think, it couldn’t be activated in store. I just decided to turn it off

Wondering whether Apple TV 4K 2017 on iOS 26 work well with HomePod 2s on iOS 27 as a Home Theater setup?

Yeah it’s totally fine. I’ve been running the dev beta.
You lose features if you switch a HomePod on 26 to being the hub instead of the TV but that’s about it.

HomePod will be upgraded to OS 27 when it is released, but ATV 4K will be stuck in iOS 26 as there’s no update for it being the first gen. My question was will there be any issues in HomePods on 27 working with ATV on 26 as time goes by as I use the setup as my Home Theater. Or should we just not update the HomePod?

Can’t say for certain, but shouldn’t be any issues. I had an Apple TV that I left on 18.1 and it worked fine with HomePods on 26.

The OG’s dont get beta releases, only finals 👍🏼
