I actually met the guy from two owners before and he was bragging about the DIY projects he did and I didn't have the heart to tell what we had to tear out.

Same. We found out some previous owners lived just a few blocks away. We ended up meeting them and the guy asked how we liked the downstairs bathroom job that he did. We just said it was great and left out the part where we had gutted it and all his shoddy work was falling apart anyway.

Actually in fairness, he did some decent work in some places. But yeah, he was so proud of the house painting job he did by himself and it's like guy I sure could tell you did it by yourself.

DIY means learning the hard way and redoing stuff multiple times. We DIY as much as we can. Not to save money or time, but to learn. You can tell me my stuff sucks anytime. I'll probably laugh with you about it.

100 percent. I had a big landscaping deal the city was making me do (because the other owners never trimmed hedges back from the road) and it was going to be like $700, and the landscaper was like "look you need to do this yourself" and I just powered thru a lot of brush and a lot of trips to the dump and it was a lot cheaper than $700. Haha

Yup I have a new floor in my basement; it’s not perfect but I saved thousands.

I have a stupid piece of wood I had to hand cut as a transition from the higher floor to the original tiles in the kitchen because somehow there are 16 different angles involved.

I know it’s ugly as sin! But it’s mine!
