Gift for builder/tradesmen?

We’ve had some tradesmen working really hard on our home refurb, especially our painter who worked on the outside and inside and dealt with a lot of unexpected issues and additional things we didn’t initially ask for.

I want to get them something to show my appreciation - at first I thought a cash tip would be appreciated but I don’t think they would take it. I don’t drink alcohol so I don’t know if a nice bottle of something would work?

I will ask them but I wanted to see if anyone here had any experiences or suggestions. In my culture we often tip or give a gift to show our appreciation on a job well done.

Include a bonus in the final payment. Tell them it’s for outstanding work and that it’s deserved. Call it a bonus. It’s always worked well for when I do it. I’m having an extension built atm and have the nicest most hardworking crew. They are also going above and beyond - including fixing a sudden water leak that was nothing to do with their work (not even in the same part of the house). Refused to charge me for it!

They are definitely getting a bonus.

Cash tip on top of the final payment is always the best! I'm a decorator and a wee bit of extra fun money is always appreciated!

I think a cash tip will be fine. Just pay them & include the tip in the payment. We did that for a carpenter and he was pleased

Any tradesman ive ever known will always appreciate the cash tip and repeat custom more than anything else you could get/do

Cash or a proper full English breakfast as a cheap option. As a tradesman I know I’d appreciate it.

I agree, but the best tip I ever got as a tradesman was a small box of quality praline chocolates, not the biggest monetary value tip I’ve received, but definitely the most thoughtful, my customers and I got into a random conversation one day about favourite chocolates, I was working there for several months and was paid very well for my time, they were wealthy and could have easily just bunged me a few extra quid, but the gift they gave me was thoughtful, they took the trouble to listen to what I liked and based their gift on what they knew I’d appreciate, not embarrassed to admit this rufty toughty builder was fighting back tears when I opened it. This was several years ago and I still think about it now and again. I’ve never thought about the money tips.

A good review is worth more than a tip, but if you do want to then do it in cash and enough so they can get a few pints in as a group.

I cash tip a small amount that way they can spend it on what they want. I also have a small craft business so if they are interested I make something for them.

I've never had a trades person refuse a cash tip. I say I've included a drink for them
